Where is HDD serial number stored? and how to access?

Hi, I'm Javan
I have a question about HDD serial number.. I hope you can help me
I want to know where is HDD serial number stored?
I want to access to the serial number at boot process.. but I don't know how!
I should check the HDD serial number with specified serial number before
OS booted. I want to modify the bootloader to do this.. do you have any
idea?

you can access the drive serial number through its SMART data. However, putting enough code to read the SMART data in a boot loader may cause issues with the bootloader size.

In the old days you could get into DOS and see it on top after you type in 'DIR' or 'DIR /p' to prevent scroll it off screen.

I'm using LILO bootloader (I can use another one). I mean unique HDD serial number, not volume serial number..
