Many owners of recently-manufactured Acer and Gateway desktop computers are experiencing surprise, frustration, and dissatisfaction, when they open up their PC and discover the difficulty of a PSU upgrade due to an Acer/Gateway proprietary 12-pin PSU-to-mobo connector. . [Some quick history: . Gateway bought eMachines in 2004, and Acer bought Gateway in 2007, according to Wikipedia.]

The purpose of this thread is to create a resource identifying which Acer and Gateway desktops made within last few years have the proprietary 12-pin PSU-to-mobo connector, instead of a standard ATX 24-pin or 20-pin connector.

If you have an Acer or Gateway desktop, please identify the make and model number of your desktop, and state whether your desktop has a standard 20 / 24-pin ATX connector or the proprietary 12-pin connector. . [Or maybe even some other type of connector ? ?]

1) I have thus far encountered reports or viewed images indicating that these specific models of Acer / Gateway desktops utilize the proprietary 12-pin power connector:

Acer Aspire AT3-605-UR21 . (i7-4770 / 12gb / 1tb)
Acer Aspire AT3-605-UR20 . (i5-4330 / 12gb / 2tb)
Acer Predator AG3-605-UR1A . (i7-4770 / 8gb / 1tb / R9-255) [?]
Acer Predator AG3-605-UR20 . (i7-4770 / 32gb / 3tb)
Acer Predator AG3-605-UR24 . (i7-4770 / 12gb / 1tb)
Acer Predator AG3-605-UR38 . (i7-4770 / 8gb / 1tb / GTX760)
Acer Predator AG3-605-UR39 . (i7-4770 / 8gb / 1tb / GTX770)
Acer Veriton VM4630G-I7477X . (i7-4770 / 8gb / 1tb)
. . . . aka DT.VHHAA.005
Acer Veriton VM4630G-I5433X . (i5-4430 / 4gb / 500gb)
. . . . aka DT.VHHAA.004
Gateway DX4885-UB3A . (i5-4430 / 8gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4885-UR21 .(i5-4430 / 8gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4870-UB318 . (i5-3330 / 8gb / 1tb -- BUT I have
. . seen a couple images of the motherboard in the DX4870-UB318
. . showing the 24-pin connector)

2) And I have encountered reports or viewed images indicating that these specific models of Acer / Gateway desktops utilize the proprietary 24-pin power connector:

Acer Aspire AME600-UR378 . (i7-3770 / 10gb / 2tb)
Acer Aspire AME600-UR368 . (i5-3330 / 8gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4860-UB20P . (i3-2100 / 6gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4860-UB32P . (i3-3120 / 6gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4860-UB33P . (i5-2320 / 8gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4870-UB17 . (i3-3220 / 6gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4870-UB2C . (i5-3330 / 8gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4870-UB308 . (i3-2130 / 6gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4870-UB318 . (i5-3330 / 8gb / 1tb -- BUT at
. . least one image of the motherboard in the DX4870-UB318
. . shows the 12-pin connector)
Gateway DX4870-UR3D . (i5-3330 / 8gb / 1tb)

If you have one of the models with the proprietary 12-pin connector, and you wish to upgrapde the PSU, you may wish to consider the adapter proposed here:

Here is a related discussion of "DIY rewiring" when replacing a proprietary PSU with a standard ATX PSU:

It is not easy to see from the image of the adapter (at your link) if the "Mini 12-pin" plug [at the lower left corner of the image] is the correct size and type to fit correctly into the 12-pin main-power connector-present on the Acer & Gateway motherboards.

Even if it is the correct size and type, it is almost certainly the case that Dell and Acer/Gateway are using different pinouts. . Therefore, this adapter would have to be dissassembled [at both ends] and reassembled & rewired to match the proprietary Acer/Gateway pinout, as illustrated in my Jan-22 and Jan-29 posts in this thread:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1833076/odd-motherboard-power-connector.html

But this is an interesting adapter -- I wonder how Dell intended it to be used.

I also have this PC (Core i5 4430, 12GB, 2TB) and I'm very curious how did you end up upgrading the power supply. I have a new 7870 and a new EVGA 500W power just sitting there. I'd really appreciate any help I can get.
