Which adapters will I need to connect my HDMI cable from my laptop to my TV?

I stupidly bought an HDMI cable without realizing that my laptop doesn't have a hole to match the cord, and I'm pretty sure my TV doesn't either. I am assuming this will require adapters of some sort on both ends, but I'm not sure exactly what I'll need.

You will probably need a Mini DisplayPort cable. However, some TVs don't have these.
Therefore, what you will need is a Mini DisplayPort to VGA cable.
If your TV doesn't have a VGA port, try a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable.

Just check to see if your laptop has a Mini DisplayPort port first. :lol:

If I understand correctly you have an older TV with only Component or Composite inputs and a laptop with only VGA output?

If so you need a "VGA to composite" or "VGA to component" active converter.

(Not sure why a laptop would have mini DP output but not HDMI)

*You'd also have to apply the proper video output which for a CRT is likely "480i" under the TV section but I've never tried this. It will have 720x480 resolution though that doesn't exactly match a monitor or HDTV because the pixels aren't space the same (more sideways than up and down). This can cause video to look stretched.
