which amd is better for gaming?

Solution

Surprisingly I never heard anyone even mention a boost edition card actually. So I thought I would do the OP a favor and mention it since he/she would be insane to buy a 650Ti right now with the much higher performing boost available for such a small amount more.
I am going to lean towards the 6100 over the 4300 because even if the game only supports 4 cores windows still uses some cpu cycles in the background and it is less likely to get bogged down when games start using more threads. If you can afford to get the 6300 it would be the way to go because it is the best of both worlds...

You can still OC the 6100 to faster than the speed of the 4300 and still have 2 extra "bum cores" and have it all. Either way is no big deal. Not the end of the world either way. I just like extra multithreaded performance it is my bias i guess.

Which is pointless because the OP specified for gaming.

The 4300 hands down, the ideal would be to find a few extra bucks and buy the 6300 though.

Plain and simple, first gen FX's are crap. Terrible IPC and piss poor efficiency. AMD improved the FX's by leaps and bounds with the 2nd gen chips. I would take a 4300 over a 6100 any day of the week. Of course I would take a 6300 over any of them, which is why I bought one 😉

After looking at the game benches again (it's been quite a while since I had seen them) I am going to have to change what I said before and go with you guys on this. The 4300 is better for gaming than the 6100.. And for the moment the 6300 wouldn't help much at all in games either, maybe a few frames + or - here or there so if all you wanna do is game the 4300 is the way to go..

So 1 gb is enough?

I would recommend the higher Vram version of the 650Ti, since that card has lower bandwidth than the equivalent Radeon card, you'll want all the Vram you can get, because future games will require more bandwidth/memory. I would also recommend the HD 7850 over the GTX 650Ti...but if you like nvidia you won't notice a big difference in performance between the 2.

The new 650Ti Boost edition have the back end (memory sub system) of the 660 making 2GB actually usable and the price difference of 30 dollars vs a regular 650Ti is much worth the investment as the boost edition show a significant performance increase over a regular 650Ti. Here is the Toms review of the Boost for your reading pleasure. Notice even with terrible beta drivers it still performs solidly ahead or a regular 650Ti and more on pace with 7850 performance levels.
