Which AMD processor would team up best with a AMD Radeon GPU ?

The recommended processor for a AMD Radeon RX 460/470 4GB is mentioned as Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5 GHz. But I want to buy an AMD processor as these tend to be comparatively cheaper than Intel processors. Can I buy one such AMD processor possibly the FX-6100 or the FX-6350 and team it up with the AMD Radeon GPU ?

You kind of have the right idea, you want the CPU and videocard to be balanced. But for one thing, a 460 and a 470 are on two completely different performance levels. So you'd want to match the 460 to an entry level CPU, whereas the 470 works better with a mainstream CPU.

Your examples, the FX 6xxx series, are just fast enough to make the 470 the better choice.

I would not advise buying an FX CPU now, if you don't already have an FX system. If price is the issue, build a Pentium G4560 based system. It has more of a future upgrade path in the event you eventually want to upgrade your CPU. If AMD is your choice, the Ryzen 1400 is your current lowest price choice that makes sense.

As I see it, the Ryzen 1400 has released in April 2017 and is branded as a high-end CPU. How would this be a lowest price choice then ? I am planning to buy the 470 only if the price difference isn't much but I would have to change my processor and motherboard as well. Any other suggestions ?

if you want a rx 470, then the cheapest best choice would be to get a pentium G4560, and yes you would need a new motherboard and ram for it


a 6300 would pair well with a rx 460, if your motherboard supports that processor, you would be much better off pairing it with a gtx 1050 ti


the ryzen 4 core is also a good choice, but this also means a new motherboard and ram



the fx 6100 is utter trash for gaming

FX-6300 will bottleneck RX 470. R5 1400 would give you the best performance (cheapest route) but R5 1600 is the best performance/value wise (out of AMD's current CPU's). On top of that it's powerful enough to do much more than just gaming.
