I would go with the apu build as the first gen bulldozer fx processors are not that good if you went the fx route i would at least use the 4300. I can see if i can throw something together for you too what is your budget and what do you need?

That APU rig isn't good for gaming, the dedicated videocard on the first rig is better.
You will need at least 1866 Mhz DDR3 to get decent framerates from the 6800 as well. 2133 Mhz preferred.

However, you may want to consider the Athlon processor in an FM2+ board, with a dedicated GPU.

The first rig needs more RAM. 1 stick is odd in a dual channel motherboard, and 4 GB won't be enough.

responded too quick didn't notice no dedicated graphics go with the first one but bump processor to a 4300 or a 6300 if you can squeeze it.

My budget is around ~600 dollars without mail in rebates. There's a possibility I could sell my iPod touch and get an extra 200 dollars, but I doubt it.

Well, I won't necessarily need 6/8 gigabytes of RAM, I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means.

Well, I won't necessarily need 6/8 gigabytes of RAM, I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means.

You need at least 8 on any modern rig. It's pretty standard. 4 will be noticeably slower.

You would also want a 2 x 2 kit if you wanted 4 GB of RAM, not 1 stick. Always buy in pairs.

This is the cheapest I can get it, and the worst I'd recommend.

Go with Windows 8.1, it's faster than 7 and has a lot less major updates. It will run better on newer hardware as well. The Athlon chips are cheap but don't have the integrated graphics, perfect for your setup.
I used the GT 750, I don't recommend any videocard less than that.
