Hi, im helping my friend with building a pc for music recording/editing. He's on a tight budget so the least amount of money spent is the best. He also plays indie games and uses emulators. I've came up with a few different builds, but which one would be the best? I think the amd build with the fx-8320 will offer the best performance per dollar, but I'm not very familiar with working with amd parts.

It's not letting me post the pcpartpicker list so I'm only going to post the url to each of them.

For 600 dollars, this build is better than any other build you were going for. And it would be good for Editing and Rendering purposes as tasks like that uses multiple threads and the 8320 has plenty threads (8) . Also i have somehow cramped in a 7750 at that budget which is a very good GPU for the price and it should not have playing Indie Games and Emulators. It is much better than the Nvidia 610 you selected.

So here is the build :

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($154.99 @ Canada Computers)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($59.99 @ Canada Computers)
Memory: Corsair XMS3...
yep. the 8320 would be the most price effective cpu in that range; sound editing and recording isn't particularly cpu taxing... and the i5 would make a better gaming chip... that said his budget is the biggest question. if we're talking about a guy with a budget in the 600 range, then amd would make him the most complete build, if we're talking about 1000 then an intel would make the best build. if his range is less then 400 then we have to go to something like a celeron to find the sweet spot in price/performance.
