Which card is this??

I was called to fix a computer today that has a PCI video card with DVI out
to
flat screen. The friend only has a booklet that says ASUS
V8460/V8440/V8420 Series Programmable nFiniteFX II Graphics Card.

The card itself has several parts with ATI written on them (fan, ATI Bridge,
and ATI Rage Threater). There is one large metal covered chip (I guess)
that has AIW 8500DV 64M DDR written on it. I have searched all references
and can't find the right driver.

The connections on the PCI card are Firewall, VID I/O (about 1/2 inch
square with beveled bottom corner), DVI out, and a CATV co-axial
connector (male). I can't find a board with these connectors that
corresponds
to the booklet info. I'm not sure if my friend just had this booklet on
hand and
it doesn't correspond or what the situation is. I tried installing ATI
drivers and
they didn't work. I put a PCI matrox video card in the machine and it
works.

Does anyone know what card this is???

Yikes! I said it was a PCI card that I was asking about. That was a brain
spasm. I meant it is an AGP card!!!!

Rats, I should have also said it was working with an ASUS P4PE BP mobo.

The card should have an FCC ID number marked on it. You could then
confirm the manufacturer/model at the FCC search site:

Great idea but unfortunately I see no FCC ID number on it. There is a
DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY that says
"We, the responsible party, ATI Research, inc., 4mount Royal Ave.,
Marlborough, Ma 01752-1978, (508) 303-3900 declare
that the product is in conformity with part 15 of the FCC rules."
There is the number N625 CE Complies with Canadian ICES-003, Class B. And
above that just a lone number
E117942, but no FCC ID number.
On the component side, there are some ATI chips, fan with part number on it.
And the big chip with metal cover has
a part number and serial number, Made in China sticker that is on
everything, and the AIW 8500DV 64M DDR.

I checked to see if it were an 8500 Radeon but the connections don't match
what the specs show.

So I am confused. At this point, I doubt that it was made by Asus because
they stick their name on anything that they
sell (I think). I think the Asus booklet is left over from some other video
card that returned.

Any other ideas??

I suspect that manual does not match the graphics card.
The V8460/V8440/V8420 are various types of nVidia GF4 Ti graphics cards.

What you actually have seems to be an ATI 8500 AIW "All-In-Wonder" of some
flavor or another.

And that's a 1394 "Firewire" connection, not "firewall"...

It's probably an ATI All-In-Wonder 8500 DV.

All-In-Wonder cards are great once you get all the drivers and software
installed. These cards have many capabilities and require many drivers. In
my opinion you should not use the original drivers provided on the Catalyst
CD with these cards, and should only use the downloaded drivers. Still,
downloaded ATI software may require that you have an original Catalyst CD in
your CD drive for the updates to install. You may need to order a CD from
ATI.

Install the Radeon graphic drivers, and the Multimedia Center, and if you
have an ATI remote control and the little receiver for it, and you want to
use a remote control, install the Remote Control software too.

Strange ... I thought that the FCC ID number was mandatory. It's
certainly always been there for me whenever I've checked cards in
similar situations. Perhaps they've changed the rules or perhaps FCC are
accepting the Canadian approval in lieu of their own these days.
