Which connections do you use for CPU/Mo-bo with PSU ???

I'm mostly done putting stuff in my case, now I've got a handful of cables that came with the PSU. I'm trying to figure out if I'm supposed to use them (or just hand them out for Halloween!)

1. CPU
Does this need power from PSU (I said I had NOOO idea what I was doing!)? I guess I assumed it just got power from the mo-bo. However, I have a cable that says "PSU" on one end and "CPU" on the other. It is 4x2 on each ends. There is a 8-pin (4x2) header on the mo-bo that say's EATX 12v. Do I connect that header to the PSU for the CPU and be done?

2. MO-BO
* header is 24 pin (6x2)
* cable is 24 pin (6x2) on one end, other end has two-- 18 pin (9x2)(with one empty slot) and 10 pin (5x2)

The 24 pin of the cable will go into the header on the mobo, but I'm stuck on the other end. the PSU does have a 18 pin slot marked "M/B", but what do I do with the 10-pin connector? On the PSU, next to the M/B slot are 3x2 slots marked "peripheral - IDE/SATA". The 10 pin certainly won't fit in there.

However, below the 18 pin slot on the PSU is a 10 pin spot that the 2nd end of the cable will fit in, it's just marked " CPU/PCI. Do I just use that slot because it matches and not worry about the markings on the CPU case?

Well, I've read them a few times. Haven't learned anything and certainly don't love them.

Here's what they say
CPU: no instructions in box. Thanks intel!
PSU: Essentially say's, "Do NOT FORCE any connections...if they don't fit, don't plug them in".... Okay, that's helpful! Then, "Connect the power supply end of the 20/24 Pin convertible connector to the appropriate receptor on the PSU". Ummm, what about the 18 pin and 10pin connector you gave me?
Mo-Bo: Identified the plus as 24-pin EATX Pwr; 8-pin EATX 12v. No instructions. Under CPU section of mobo manual says, NOTHING about power. Only that is supports 1151; DDR4, and 16 PCI Express 3.0/2.0 lanes.

MANUALS ARE USELESS.

Is anyone interested in helping. Don't really need the smarty-pants responses right now. This is my first build ever and I'm actually looking for help from the "friendly PC community"

CPU
What's an EPS socket. Is that the same thing as the 8-pin ATX 12v header (top of mobo, just left of cpu fan headers). If so, I'll just take the 8-pin from that ATX12v header to the PSU 8-pin and be done with the CPU

Yes, mobo has 24-pin header, but PSU doesn't. It has a 18-pin and 10-pin. The cable it came with is 24 on one side and has 18 & 10 pin at the other end. So, i'm thinking the 24pin header/cable on mobo on one end, then other end is 18/10 pin cable going into those two slots on PSU eve though they are marked a little different...?

yup the 18 and 10 go to the psu and the 24 to the mobo. the only other thing is if it has a 8 pin cpu connector and a 8 pin pcie (gpu) conector plug them in correctly. they are slightly different so if you dont force them you are good

All three manuals are useless....at least to me.

Here is the entiretly of the language in the owners manual that relates to Mainboard connections:
a. DO NOT force the connector into place; the connectors are "keyed" so they can only fit on way. Make sure the connector lock is secure.
b. Connect the power supply end of the 20/24 Pin convertible connnector to the appropriate receptor on the PSU.
c. Connect the mainboard end of the 20/24 pin convertible connector to the mainboard. Depending on the mainboard, you may need to either attach or detach the 4 pin module of the 20/24 pin connector
d. Connect the +12 V P4 connector and the EPS + 12 V connector, if applicable.
3. if your system requires dual EPS + 12v connectors, please connect the 12 Pin end of the second CPU 8 Pin connector into the appropraiate 12 Pin receptor on the PSU. Then connect the mainboard end of this 8 pin connector to the main board.

There is no mention of the actual cable that came with the PSU, and the fact that it is 24pin on one end and 18/10pin on the other.

USAF - I do appreciate the help. Your initial response didn't quite feel like that though.

The mobo manual link is the same that came with it and I have been reading through it. Chapter 2 has a bunch of pictures, that would normally be great for my IQ !!!, but I don't know the basics. Like, "what's ATX power". Do I just plug the PSU into the ATX power slot on the mobo because it came with a cable and they both fit? Is that it? I'm confused because on page 1-39 of the manual it talks about two power headers and I don't know if I'm supposed to use them both. I don't want to fry anything. Is one for the CPU, the other for the mobo. Or, do I just use the mobo one and disregard the smaller ATX header?

Thanks to everyone for the help and input. I've managed to power up the PC!


For anyone that is building a similar system, here's what I did.
System:
* Asus ROG Maximus ROG VIII Hero Alpha
* PSU - Seasonic Silent Snow 750w

What I did:
I followed the general advice of "put it where it fits".

1. Mobo has two connections with power per manual (page 1-40). First one, "A" (8-pins) I ran to the PSU port marked "CPU/PCI-E". For the second mobo header, labeled "B" in the manual, I ran that to the PSU with the 18-pin cable going to the slot marked "M/B", then the other split 10-pin side of that cable I put into the PSU slot directly below/above the 18-pin "M/B" slot (..."below/above" depending on which way you mount the PSU with fan up/down).

...hope that helps for anyone else bulding with these parts.
