Which CPU and Mobo?

Hello All, I was just wondering which CPU and Mobo I should go with? The Asus m5a78l-m plus/usb3 and FX 6300 or Asus A88xm-a 3.1 and X4 880K? I am building a micro atx system with all AMD hardware and 1 of My goals is to keep the amount of manufacturers down so I would like no suggestions of other company's boards, nor any of intel or nvidia hardware. With that said I like the a88xm as it has up to date stuff like PCIe 3.0, SATAIII, and USB 3.1 as well as the 880K being only about a year old. But i do like the color scheme of the m5a78l-m plus/usb3, I'm hearing that there's quite alot of games that are taking advantage of more cores so the FX 6300 is looking nice but it's about 5 years old. I believe there will be no noticeable difference in performance for an RX480 in PCIe 2.0 x16(pcie 3.0 x8) and a Seagate SSHD in a SATAII slot as it uses less speed than the ports can provide anyway and I might be able to let go of the fact that it doesn't have USB 3.1. I've already bought the A88XM and was wondering if the performance of the FX6300 for gaming would justify Me selling it and going with the m5a78l-m plus/usb3 and FX6300? I'm really torn about this and any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Well if you are going to do VR, I would not recommend sticking with the old AMD builds, either upgrade to Ryzen (which requires another mobo anyway) or go with Intel. And of course the video card will have to be able to handle it, which RX 50 should be good enough. I agree, but I wish I had a cap to cover it since I never use it.

Again, the X4 880 is probably your best bet, but if you want to "future proof" yourself, get Ryzen. It costs a bit more, but at least you have the "latest spec"
As you know, those AMD series are at a dead end, and most games are not taking advantage of multiple threads/cores. So it would really matter if the 6300 had 32 cores (for example). So with that being said, I would go with the 880K as the better CPU. As far as the board, it's totally up to you and what you are doing with it. If color scheme is for you, then go with it. I don't for see any usage for 3.1. I have one, but don't use it.

Yes I know these are dead ends and I'd just like to have a little bit of future proofing, which 6 cores just sounds better than usb3.1 in the gaming department. I will be making a Ryzen build later but for now I'm kinda debating on 5 year old 6 core or 1 year old 4 core. You don't think the processing power is enough to go with the FX 6300? Not even a little bump in fps, especially in games like Ashes of Singularity that do have inaccessible parts without 6 or more cores I've heard?

Well the thing is, AMD's structure to utilize the cores isn't as successful as Intel, which is why Ryzen would be better. Their marketing is "We have 8 cores, buy us," but that's it, it's not as effiecent. Also utilizing 3.1 is that big of deal as wel. Why would want to use USB 3.1 for gaming purposes?

Not really for gaming, just like to have that option, especially seeing how consoles don't have it (Scorpio might) and you never know if a VR headset or other peripheral might come along that will require it, so as for as gaming goes it's not a big deal, just nice to have the latest usb spec.
