Which CPU is better for gaming

i am planning to build a custom gaming rig and for a while i was set on the AMD FX 6300, but when i asked if everything was OK with the build, alot of ppl told me to use the i3 6100 because its clock speed was 0.2GHz higher (3.5 - 3.7). But now i can get a FX 6350 CPU (at 3.9GHz) for the same price as the FX 6300, So, is the 2 core i3 actually better than the 6 core FX 6300? And is the FX 6350 better than the 13 6100?

If you are looking at AMD - you will want the fastest you can find within your budget. I am sure you know that the 6 and 8 cores are not true cores - but that being said, I would suggest the 8350.

Otherwise you may want to consider going Intel and go for a mid range i5 CPU.

In current games you basically should take the CPU core count of AMD processors and divide it by two when comparing to Intel CPUs. So the AMD FX6300 (six core) series performs better than the Intel Pentium (two cores, no hyperthreading) but not as well as the Intel i3 CPUs (two cores with hyperthreading). For gaming purposes using AMD processors, the FX8300 series is really the best option, with its eight cores. In games an FX8320 or FX8350 will perform at around 90% as well as an Intel Core i5 CPU (if the AMD ones are overclocked and the Intel ones are not overclocked).

In the long run, you are probably better off going with an Intel CPU for gaming. As SR-71 Blackbird said, the i3 CPU is better than the FX6350. It will actually perform a little better in most cases than the FX8350 if the FX8350 is not overclocked.

Personally, I tend to avoid AMD CPUs - but it is really due to their motherboard chip-sets. AMD motherboard chipsets typically use 14 watts of power and must have good airflow. Intel motherboard chip-sets use a little less than 4 watts.

It really is too bad, since competition is what drives the industry.

Good luck!
