Which cpu is better?

I just want to know if a Intel Xeon E5-2609 V3 is better than the intel 4790 for video editing and light gaming. Also should I go for a used 5820k insted because it's unlocked and has far higher performance.

The 4790 would be faster than the E5-2609 V3, and the 5820K is faster than the 4790 in heavily threaded programs but for gaming the 4790 is the way to go.

that is a TERRIBLE xeon for gaming and not that good for editing either. i7 beets it in every way

Go for the 5820k. Since you're doing video editing, you'll use the extra two cores over the 4790k.

to a extent the 5820 will have 12 threads when the 4790 will have 8, 8 vs 12 threads wont make much of a difference since programs arnt designed to use that many

Stuff like photoshop and premiere pro should. Even if they don't, the render times would be faster with the 5820k. I assumed since his priority was editing and then light gaming he'd want something that would give him as fast of render times as possible.
