So I'm getting ready to upgrade my CPU, RAM, and motherboard and I can't really decide which CPU to go with.

I currently have an i5 4460, my two choices are Ryzen 1700x or i7 7700k. My main uses are Gaming(VR included) and Streaming on Twitch.

So which should I get or if you have another suggestion I'm all ears.

What monitor do you game on? More specifically what refresh rate or what FPS are you aiming for? If it is below 100FPS, the 1700x is a better option. If you're aiming for high fps (100+) in late AAA games, the 7700k could benefit you more.

You can save alot of money by sticking with your current platform too. There are still viable upgrades there.

Hello Acleverhobo!

I can't tell you which one you should take because i didnt test the Ryzen one yet but i am working/gaming/VRGaming/Streaming with an 7700k and a MSI 1080 Foundersedition an i can tell you everything is running buttersmooth

Well the ryzen would be better for your needs or you can wait for coffee lake that launches in october with the 6 core 8700k and see what that thing does.

If you are gaming, streaming and recording at the same time, the 8c16t CPUs from Ryzen 7 are a no brainer.
The i7-7700K is the best gaming CPU, but if you want to do more than that then the Ryzen 7 is a better choice.

Yea it seems like the general consenus is if streaming is involed Ryzen is the way to go.

How much better is the 7700k gaming wise?

As I said, for framerate goals above 100FPS in AAA games the 7700k benefits. Both CPUs can perform a 75FPS framerate goals in nearly all games.

There won'b be. If the monitor's refresh rate is 60FPS, there won't be any noticeable difference between 80FPS and 200FPS unless there are drops

If you think that would work best, I do have a laptop lying around that I don't use very often.

Would this work?

Also my current GPU is a R9 Fury Nitro and I have a 144hz monitor.

Yea I definitely want the best possible setup I can get for now.

Provided the laptop I linked is fine for streaming, do you have a recommendation on which capture card to use?
