I need a new monitor and i was wondering what's the advantages of different technologies. IPS, LED, LCD....
which has:
The best viewing angles?
The best colour reproduction?
The most visible in direct sunlight?
The most reliability?

The overall champion of displays

Besting viewing angles and color reproduction would have to be IPS displays. Most visible in direct sunlight? Not too sure about that, I have a laptop with a IPS display and in brightly lit rooms it's sort of like a mirror if the brightness is too low.

Reliability? That's based on the brand you buy, cheaper it is the more likely it is to fail earlier.

I'm partial to Asus monitors myself, although I don't own a IPS by Asus but I do have one of their TN panels and let me just say, color reproduction is like the last priority when it comes to gaming TN panels.

The best viewing angles? IPS, with typical viewing angles of 178 degrees. The best colour reproduction? IPS again.

Visible in direct sunlight - I can't answer this, my computer is INSIDE the apartment, LOL. You should pay attention to words like "matte" or "glossy" in the monitor's description. Glossy monitors are useless IMO if you aren't in a dark room - you'll see your own face reflected back at you and it gets annoying fast.

Reliability - this depends on manufacturer IMO. Personally I've been happy with monitors from Dell, Viewsonic and LG, whether they were CRT, LCD, or IPS.

Ips is a type of lcd, and led is the backlight. Completely different things. I'm going to make this simple. First let's start off with display types; the most common being crt, lcd, and plasma. Most likely with a monitor you're going to be looking at an lcd so I won't go into the other types. Then there are different types of lcds: ips and tn being the most common. Generally speaking ips is going to be better viewing angles and color and tn is brighter. And last I should mention is backlights, which is ccfl and led. The issue with all of this is with so many variables it's easier to suggest a specific monitor then to try to compare technologies when looking for a new monitor. What country are you from and what is your budget?
