Hello community. I am looking at building my first gaming PC and have already started ordering SSDs, a case, power supply etc. But now it's getting to the time for the big parts. On my current rig I have to run games on full potato. I am someone who wants to play 1080p, don't really care for the highest settings. I am looking at a i7 6700k and i'm wavering between the gtx 1070 and gtx 1060. Is their a gtx 1060 that is fairly close to that of a gtx 1070 but obviously theirs a sizeable price drop? Or am I looking in the wrong place all together?

Regards Stuart.

depends on your preferred settings. gtx 1060 6gb/rx 580 8gb for ultra. not much difference between the two cards really. go for which one is cheaper / available in your country.

I have had a look at that rx 580 and would be willing to go for it, It's just i've heard scare stories about mixing intel CPU with AMD cpu. Are these well founded or just a bit of a chin wag?

Best GPU For price/performance ratio is GTX 1060 6gb.

Asus Strix GTX1060 6gb version is overclockable and has solid built quality.

If money is not a problem and u want to play even most demanding games at ultra, Then go with GTX 1070.
However, GTX 1070 will be a beast for 1080p and 1440p.

I recommend getting a highly overclocked version like asus strix gtx1060 6gb OC or if money is not a bar, then get a gtx 1070.It will run for at least 5 years next.

Said you were looking at a 6700k - that was replaced by 7700k which has been replaced by an 8700k. SR posted a build in this thread with an 8600k that will outperform the 6700k and run neck and neck with a 7700k.

So the question is why are you doing a new build with old hardware? Find a really good deal?

Just looking at getting a rig that can do what I require with a fair level of integrity. Unfortunately being a student money is an issue, so can't splash out for all the newest hardware.
