Which GPU is Better?

I have a 2560x1080 monitor an I'm wondering which GPU is best for me.

IMO it's between the GTX 770 (overclocked GTX 680) & R9 280X (AMD 7970 Ghz edition). They perform similarly.

If there is a game you play a lot that favors either AMD or Nvidia, that will be the deciding factor.

Will the extra ram make a difference at that resolution?

They will still perform similarly at that resolution. The additional Gigabyte of ram on the 280X would come in handy if you mod your games, for example in Skyrim , with intensive graphical mods it will eat up a lot of ram. Some games can use more than 2GB, so arguably the 3Gb 280x is more future proof. But if you upgrade every couple of years anyway, it won't matter too much.
