Current build:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40GHz
    MOBO: ASUS x79 deluxe
    RAM: 6x Kingston KHX1866C9D3/4GX 4GB (24G total)
Need your guidance on this one. I'm going to upgrade my current GPU (Radeon HD 7950) to something stronger. I was thinking of either a GTX 970/980, or a Radeon FX 480 once released (waiting for benchmarks). What's your thought on those 3, or perhaps you have another GPU in mind?

I don't have budget for GTX 1070/1080, but out of curiosity, would bottleneck happen with a 1070/1080 with rest of my build? Also, any suggestions for this build? Would you for example go for new MOBO for DDR4 RAM, or not necessary? Thanks for reading, and hopefully helping :)

Depends on what monitor(s) you plan on using. If you are 4k gaming, a 980ti/1070/1080 is defiantly what's going to be of the most use other than a r9 295x2. For 1440p I'd go with a furyX/1070/980ti. For 1080p you could do a 970/980/r9 390/rx 480.

Forget bottlenecks, that cpu can handle easily anything you could throw at it. My heaviest workload game only puts my i7 3770k at 55% with my 970 at 99% on 2x 1080p monitors.

The Rx 480 is being touted as having benchmarks similar to a r9 390, for a $200 pricetag. If it does, it'll handle lowered settings at 1440p, but will really dominate the 1080p market.
