I have one dream.. to play Starfield.. same bros that make fallout games.

My PC
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: AMD A8-8780... with 1 fan on top .. no other fans.. (open case)
PSU: Antec 500W META
RAM: 16GB DDR3
It only has one PCIe card (a network card)
Monitor: Chiworld 23" LCD

I want to play Starfield.. but it says my video is poopy....
Please dont suggest Nvidia.. I'm not here to debate which is better.. because you can already see which APU im using....

I want a not so huge GPU that will fit in my power bracket because i want to do this without replacing anything.

i moved to SE Asia so i might have access to slightly better priced items....

Oh, and I don't need 200 fps to play Starfield.. just as long as it doesn't stutter. Years of being nose-distance from a CRT TV screen has damaged my ability to tell 20 fps and 200 fps apart.

Starfield for PC minimum system requirements whether from the Steam store or Microsoft store:
  • OS: Windows 10 version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD required
Only the X-Box version has a physical disc so no optical drive is required.

Recommended specs bump this up to:
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Intel i5-10600K
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
Incredibly there are now laptop APUs that can meet these now, for those willing to spend double for portable gaming.

well... sorry to waste all your time... lucky for me i have a MSI gf65 thinkUE gaming laptop.. bug its been lost in the mail since october last year.....
.. my issues with said laptop is that the gpu in it is a 3060.. and im not hate bashing nvidia... .. im just not fond of companies that dont know a thing about overheating...

brand new is not in my budget... heck i never had a new car in my life either.. well except a yaris.. .. sorry that was pointless to mention.. but other than fallout 4 and eve online.. i really dont play much of anything past 2000 ... my all time favourite game from 1999 is Star Trek: Birth of the Federation.

It doesn't have to be brand new, just new to you. 😉

Used market can be a great option. Facebook marketplace often has used rigs, you can get good deals on, that would work. Your current system just cannot be upgraded to meet the system requirements.

i agree... however.. since Philippines has over 6000 islands.. facebook marketplace is tricky.. .. but there are amazon alternatives.. such as lazada, shoppee, temu and tiktok shop... alot cheaper than when i was living in great white north.. my network card.. only 5$.. shipping included.... certainly i can get an old Radeon for a great price.. just need a model... the apu should only pull 65-100 watts which gives me 400 watts to play with... .. and only a a HSF that probably pulls 5 watts

you are ignoring the fact others pointed out .
and the fact is no matter which modern gpu you will put in your pc
you will still not be able to run any newer games on it
simply bacause your cpu is too much of a bottleneck .
ddr3 based FM2(+) apu system is obsolete and
any processor compatible with this socket has worse single core performance
than i3 processors from 10 generations ago (i3 4130/4160) ...

wow no kidding.. im pretty sure a8-7680 is 4 core... i havent heard of hyperthreading in a long time.. i figured all cpu companies had integrated that into their product.. i bet even Cyrix has... if you are that old

yes i understand i cant play starfield.. ill just find another gaming laptop or pray to Keannu Reeves that the Canada post ship didnt sink along its way to the Philippines
that msi gf65 let me play that cool space game.. star citizen.. if it can run that.. i bet starfield shouldnt be an issue

curious.. could a ryzen 3 or ryzen 5 apu play starfield , given that it had 32gb fo ram or 64... ?

yes it is a 4 core but that alone doesn´t mean much ,
fx6300 was a six core and it was matched by dual core i3 (with hyperthreading)
in gaming performance back in the day ...

yes but for that you would need to upgrade your entire platform to either AM4 or AM5
i would not buy APU again if i were you though .
ryzen 5600 and b550 motherboard + 2x16gb ddr4 3600MHz cl16 memory is a good budget friendly foundation of a new and relatively cheap gaming system .
AM5 is even better with good upgrade path for the future but it is also more expensive overall .

What is your budget? GPU wise, you could get away with something like an RX 580 8GB (preferably better), and it'll play at an alright frame rate. CPU wise though you are very lacking, you could try just getting a better GPU and seeing how it will play for you, but you will likely need to replace just about everything for a decent experience.

honestly.. with my daughters b-day coming up.. and the need for my own motorized vehicle.. id say i can afford a Ryzen 5 5600 something (im guessing about the 5600 part.. it comes with the apu.. ram and mobo.. i will reuse my case and psu.. 200$usd is my budget.. but simutaneously im trying to setup a solar power thingy to not use land power to use my pc... currently the UPS that my pc is plugged into.. is pulling 183 watts (electric fan ad montior, modem and all my external hdd are using same ups... .. i do have a beefy solar panel on my roof.. its rated at 320 watts althought i know ill never get said 320 watts.. but if i get 200 watts... im golden.. i just need to fix the mppt or scc issue... and i also need a 12v DC to 220v AC pure sine wave inverter beause my overpriceed UPS doesnt like modified sine wave as a power input... sorry.. you can disregard that part... problems of a first worlder living in a 3rd world...

Honestly, if you don't mind it looking like smeared Vaseline, you could see if you could get a 5600g or 5700g CPU with built in graphics. It won't be an amazing experience, but it looks like it will work, and you could add a graphics card later.

according to google

YouTuber Tests Starfield on AMD Athlon 3000G, Ryzen 7 5700G APUs. AMD's Athlon 3000G is a bit hopeless, but the Ryzen 7 5700G does a lot better. Yesterday we pondered over YouTubers testing Starfield on the Steam Deck, and sharing their mixed feelings

im sorry, i dont understand the smeared vaseline reference... :)
so its choppy ? but it plays ???.. i saw the youtube video that you linked, are you kidding me? that is amazzing, he was geting 40 fps and i already said i dont mind 30 fps.. i dont need 200 or 1 billion fps...

dude you dont get it.. i tried to play baldurs gate 1on a 1 speed CD-rom player.. the intro video was lagged beyond belief and i couldnt skip it... so i just let it play and i went outside to play hockey... .. and i got said 1 speed cd rom when it first came out in our top computer store.. im not certain if you are familiar with Montreal's Future Shop ???? i think it was bought off by some Ontario computer store and shut down some years ago.... my first gpu was a voodoo 2, 2000... i was downright wearing Jordan shoes :).. i understand if its slightly choppy.. but as long as i can move the screen towards the enemies and shoot.. im happier than a fly on.. you know :)

so.. ryzen 5 5600G.. is 16 gb enough ??? or should i play it safe and get 32 ??? my chrome is always open... with more tabs than i need...

Fair enough hah, I would shoot for 32gb if you can, and that video was using FSR so there will be some latency, but it didn't look terrible. It looks like it will work with that setup, don't expect it to be the best experience ever. But it shouldn't be as bad as waiting on an unskippable cut scene with a slow from cdrom hah.
