this is what i predict, Nvidia will try to brute force their architectural "flaw", more cores, more hz more vram, as usual, to make up for AMD's dx12 difference, however, Nvidia wont be willing to fork out for anything other than gddr5 still, to make it cost effective and thus not be enough, and AMD will prevail because Nvidia cheaped out 😉,
thats what im expecting atleast, but i must say i am veeeery excited to see what teh showdown actually brings
feels like this year is gonna be GPU brawl of teh decade,
AMD the underdog trying to regain its place on a permanent basis, with the "old champ" slightly nervous in the arena

The r9 380 is usually a decent amount better. It also is usually cheaper as well. I would pick it over the 960 but thats just me. The only thing is that it will use a bit more power than the 960 so make sure your psu can handle it if you decide to go that way.

this is one of the WORST advice to give some 1
"future proof", not only is that a bad term in general regarding tech, but at this moment, its even worse with brand new GPU's coming out from both companies soon, driver changes, and more over Vulcan API
not only is AMD's current "edge" slim, this be on current gen GPUS's but Nvidia have continuously over the past months, that what they might, at this moment, lack in asynch compute feature they are making up for with software

you cant just say to some1 "buy this, because, reasons, + i guarantee future", make your recommendations and validations on whats going on right now, not what "might" or might not happen, specially in the very near future

if you think AMD holds the crown right now with 380 over 960, fair enough,
but claiming with such a certainty that will last, is foolish at best, and terrible advice at worst

When/If Pascal fails vs polaris and AMD takes the market back, then you can celebrate, dont hail them before the contest is even started
(would be kinda funny tho if the market went 180 and AMD got the shares 😉)
but its not even close to over, because it hasnt even begun yet
no such thing as future proof with hardware

Maybe you need to do a bit of homework, and check how far ahead AMD is going to be in the next year or so (Their stocks are already skyrocketing). AMD GPU's smash Nvidia GPU's in Directx12, and higher resolutions, not to mention explicit multi adapter, vulkan, async. That's just their GPU's, CPU's are another story. 30FPS increase on DX12.

There are plenty of other benchmarks that back this up. Nvidia have had better marketing mostly, and better software as of lately, however I knew this time would come soon, and now it is upon us. So many people think Nvidia are king because they're better at dx11/1080p without realising, the more complex the task, the better the chip works (AMD), which is why you don't see Nvidia bitmining for example.

sigh.. these are current GPU benchmarks.. not upcoming,, which there are no data on but speculation
and all these benchmarks are with asynch compute a feature that is optional to use
and devs have already commented that they might not decide to utilize asynch as such in the future in all games, because whatever their reason, which will instantly remove AMDs gain

now i didnt want to start an AMD vs NVidia because i couldnt care less as long as we get a good card either way
my point was, you simply cannot state "future proof" because of current benchamrks might "suggest" something
when Nvidia and AMD has released their next line, it will be made certain for the next couple fo years who has the better card
until then, nothing is future proof, specially regarding a voluntary set of features that can be chosen to or not to be used at any whim
the future will show us what is best, "we" cant state anything as fact until that day is here

it's optional to use in the sense whether the game will be built on dx11 or dx12. Yes you can turn it off on dx12, but why would you? AMD MASTER RACE. I'll buy your gtx 960 for $50 if you want so you can upgrade to AMD.

actually the reason im still on 960 is exactly because i wanted to wait and see the showdown 😉
why fork out for SLI TI's if either pascal is better or AMD utterly floors Nvidia for teh next couple of years?
doing my homework is exactly why i waited and still use this one 😀 (well technically not even mine, its a lend/gift, as i wouldnt even fork out for 960 because of said homework) 😀
