Hello,
I'm planning on buying a 980 Ti in the coming months, the final component of my new PC and I'd like to hear your suggestions on what brand/version I should buy. They all cost more or less the same in my store so price isn't an issue in this case. I've been doing some research but I'm not sure what exactly are the differences between each version and what would be the most suitable.
I used to have a 780 Ti from Gigabyte, the OC edition (Windforce) but it was extremely unstable (driver crashing) and I had to heavily underclock it to be even remotely stable. I ended up having to refund it (No RMA offered). In my old (current) PC, I'm using a GTX 660, also from Gigabyte, OC edition and I also have to underclock it now a little bit to prevent driver crashes. However, the card is many years old so I suppose that's to be expected. Either way, I thought the OC editions would be selected to be able to run stable on higher clocks, guess Gigabyte has poor filter process.
TL;DR Bad experience with Gigabyte, would rather avoid it in the future.
So far from what I've been reading and looking into things, it seems that EVGA or MSI are the way to go. Currently, my choice is the EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC+ ACX 2.0+ as it looks to have both higher factory clock (I'd rather avoid having to overclock manually as long as possible to maintain high FPS) as well as superior cooling solution. However, the 780 Ti Windforce had 3 fans on it and was still extremely unstable so alternative cooling doesn't necessarily mean better stability and performance.
I don't have a water cooling solution in my PC (While I have decent experience in assembling PCs, even the pre-made water-cooling solutions seem a bit too risky and complicated for me to attempt it, especially with my expensive setup I'm building), otherwise I'd get the EVGA 980 Ti HC one.
The MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G looks like a good alternative but the SC+ ACX 2.0+ seems to have higher clocks and some kinda proprietary special cooling layer which is supposedly superior.
I've always focused more on software and only relatively recently started to research and educate myself more about hardware, so any input and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
