What i5 should I go for for gaming that won't bottleneck any gpu and performs well in cpu intensive games. I have a h81m-plus so I don't think I'll be overclocking so just an overall powerful i5 that can handle any game thrown at it.

Solution
the best you can afford may look at a xeon as well lot of folks go for them over a i5

[example]

Pros: High performance per dollar spent. Upgraded from an i5 4460 and it's night and days in Cities Skylines. Basically upgraded only to play this game.

Pros: 4 cores 8 threads i7 performance at i5 prices. Works in any 1150 motherboard

Pros: This things a monster!
3 months of hard game used, recording/streaming and rendering and I've still not been able to stutter or slow this thing down!

just check your boards cpu list for compatibility or bios needed

good luck

Solution
i5-4690k, i dont know why u give him 4460 if its old model ,

the Question was "Which haswell i5 is the best for gaming"
Answer: i5-4690K 3.5GHz (3.9Turbo Boost) - u can overclock it to 4.5,4.6GHz easy, and 5.0GHz its the last number.
p.s there no talking about price only about "Best for Gaming" so yea.

Also xeon is good to, as "junkeymonkey" said it has 4cores and 8threads but ,i would pick i5-4690K because its faster then that Xeon in most cases ... Look up in YouTube.

Best Options are:

Intel Core i5-4690K
Intel Xeon E3-1231V3

GoodLuck# im the i5-4690K owner and im very happy with my i5, its the best i5 on Haswell and its very strong. :)

I also use a 4670 non k and as I see it does all I ask ?? thing is the xe0n does come with multithreading over the i5 I do se at times that can be a ''boost''

in the end you can only do what you feel is best for you and your needs all this comes down to opinion and user experiences good or bad ?

any of these choices should do you fine but we all know the more top of the line is for the most part more top of performance [that's with anything]

like in a i5 go with the top 2 I 5's k or non k I guess now is the 4690 in haswell or the that 1231 xeon will be close on par + the hyperthreading if ever needed and could be a plus over a little bit of ghz [clock speed]

like I say determine the best you can afford to me ends up the best policy so if you can for example get the 4690 over a 4460 then I would if you don't care about overclocking and want out of the box stability then a non K chip will do great [that's all I use anymore ]

just one more thing is if you got a 8 series board be sure you bios is updated to support the haswell refresh chips before you try to use them [really need to check for any cpu you intend to use ]

Will the xeon e3 1231 v3 ottleneck a gtx 1060/1070 and can it handle arma 3 and other cpu intensive games?

don't see why not looks to me like a decent balance I use a 980ti on my xeon and 4670 seems to do me a good job ?? I'm fine with it all [but that's just me ]

thing about bottlenecking is anything can bottleneck anything at any time no matter what . that's why you tend to get the best you can afford to help limit any of that but its still not a 100% cure

this is way you got to determine a best overall balance of your parts
