my mother board : ASUS P5GC-MX/133
current processor : intel pentieum dual E2180 @2 GHZ

I WANT TO UPGRADE MY PROCESSOR TO PLAY GAMES BUT NOT SURE WHICH PROCESSOR SUPPORT MY MOTHERBOARD?

Solution
If it were expected to work your board would support it, i don't think you'll be able to pull that off with the board that you have. A cheap HP/Dell machine will be significantly better than what you currently have, its really not worth upgrading a computer that old.

i just want to know which processors are compatible with my old motherboard. for get about games

While there are some core 2 duo that will run on the board(albeit slower due to the limited 800mhz fsb support) I wouldn't waste money trying to update such an old platform. You'd be better of starting from scratch with a new system. No matter what you do that motherboard is not really going to allow you play newer games.

While they may technically fit in the socket, that doesn't mean the motherboard will support them. There are many socket 775 cpus that will not work on that motherboard. Here is the cpu support list from ASUS

thanks but what does this mean "beta,Due to chipset limitation, 1333FSB processors can only run at a maxium speed of 1066FSB on this motherboard." ?

It means that if you install a Core 2 chip in there that expects a 1333 MHz bus it is going to run slow since the motherboard can only support up to 1066 and the Core 2s based their clock speed off of the FSB so if you put an C2D E8400(3GHz) in there it would only run at 2.4GHz

can i over clock the processor safely to make it run on 3 ghz?

Probably not, I dont think that board even supports overclocking. even when it was new it was a budget level board.
