Hey guys I am working on an old build while I save up for a new haswell build, but for the meantime I have an 775 motherboard from ASUS and the max CPU it can support is either the e6700 or the Q6600. I have After Effects CS4 and a few games already, but which CPU will perform better along with 4gb of RAM and a HD6770? I know that the quad processor is faster when encoding and video editing, but I will be spending $20 extra if I go with the quad instead of the core 2 duo e6700. Does the price margin justify the performance boost? I do gaming at 720p and some light video editing, will the core 2 duo be enough?

core 2 duo e6700= $23
core 2 quad Q6600= $47

I have 6700 Duo at 2.66 speed. Writing this from it. It been working fine for me for 7 years with the good care. It is stable, but can only hndle up to 10-15 open IE pages. You will feel it's limits. I also have 2.88 Ghz Duo, 32 bit. Installed Win 7 on it. It works. Can not install games due to video card limits.

Q6600 all the way, a quad core is always better for gaming now a days lol. Take the lower clock speed and more core count. The core 2 duo will cut it as i got a spare pc with 4gb ddr2 a 6770, and a 3.2ghz athlon x2 6400+ playing battlefield 3 just fine at 720p so yes it will cut it but the quad will be better for modern games that use multi core threaded

Yeah I want to go with the quad but my friend is the one who is selling me his core 2 duo for $23 and he tells me it will be good enough to play games and after effects even though he could be lying since he is trying to sell it to me lol
What games run better with a quad? I mean I could also overclock the quad so it can be faster right?

Lol I did not know that. So NVIDIA graphics cards perform better when using adobe products? because for my haswell build I had my mind on a Radeon HD 7850 :??:

ahh so if you could get a quad for cheap would you buy it? Hypothetically speaking, if you had a good video card like a 6770, which one would you go for?

nice thanks for making me more indecisive about which GPU I should get, but I have always used Radeon GPU's :heink: lol
