The Corsair VS is actually a decent line. It is only sold in areas of the world using 220VAC though so it has never been submitted to 80 Plus certification.

The excellent Tier 1 EVGA units are made by SuperFlower. The loose voltage regulation and high ripple on the FSP made EVGA units place them more in tier 3.

You are correct in that the VS and CX are roughly equal in quality. In places where higher quality units are not available the VS makes sense.

A jonnyguru review of the 400w FSP Hexa shows a few problems with the unit's performance although it does meet ATX specifications.

The Corsair is a better choice.

I would go for corsair as FSP is a fairly unknown brand and that if a PSU fails it brings all of your other components down with it. Thats why it's important to buy a good brand, corsair is very well know for having a very high quality psu.

Actually depends on which one you buy, honestly. Corsairs are more well known for using cheap components with a few exceptions like the RM series and above. Only good Corsairs are the ones made by Seasonic, which unfortunately is only their top tier ones. If you need a 550w I'd recommend this one here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013

Made by Seasonic which is basically the best around.

Here's a list of the different tiers of power supplies, right here on this site:

Well to be honest i would go with cosiar, the extra 50w isn't worth what a bad PSU could do to your system. BTW i don't think you need such a big psu unless your playing to get a gpu.

Don;t listen to neon neophyte. I have a corsair 600W 80+ bronze and been using it for over 5 years. It has no problems and never failed once.

Any type of power supply is good from Antec, XFX, Corsair, Be Quiet, etc.. it really depends on how you use your system. If you overclock then the basic should be 600W to give some head room. But otherwise any brand with 80+ bronze will suit all you need.

i second the motion that this argument needs to end.......right now. (to those of you who had posts deleted...)

as far as what psu to go with...

some SOLID advice is to pick from tiers 1 or 2 from the list in the link below. at a bare minimum i'd go to tier 3 but no lower.
http://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/f/135081/t/45344.aspx

some of the lower end corsair models are not very good and are potential timebombs however the HX and AX series are very good. FSP in general isnt a top notch psu however a few of their models are not bad.

what i would suggest is a seasonic or xfx psu as many fall within the good zones i mentioned above. antec also makes a few nice ones and the upper level corsair ones are not bad either.

remember tiers 1&2 preferable... tier 3 at absolute worst. do that and you should be fine.

The PSU is the singlemost important component in your pc. It directly affects every other component with very controlled voltage and current. Using a badly made or badly designed psu can have disastrous affects on your other parts. 1 simple short can fry a motherboard or CPU or gpu easilly, and more common is low outputs, causing all sorts of problems from bluescreens to PC's not even turning on. I would advise giving serious thought into a quality psu.

Edit: my suggestion would be Antec HCG 620w semi-modular. Usually found on sale for @$60, its a little more wattage than you need, but for the price it has no equal qualitywise and ease of installation.

FSP (OEM manufacturer) makes the EVGA SuperNova Gold series among others, so they are more than capable of making a Tier1 PSU. They are also capable of making garbage. Corsair is no different, except they buy their psu's from someone else (mostly ChannelWell and Seasonic).

That said, its going to be up to the FSP hexa itself if its good or bad, I have no knowledge of them. The Corsair VS v2 as released in India, however, is about on the same footing as the CX, the original VS was cheaper, and worse.
