Well imma change my cpu, mobo and ram and I don't think I'll be able to replace my gpu any time soon so I need some advice. Is ryzen 3 3100 any good paired with my rx560?

Solution
My current setup:
CPU - i3-4170
Mobo - h81m-d
ram - 2x4gb 1333hmz

My original plan was just to replace one of my ram sticks because I'm getting a BSOD that says memory error and i think its either my ram or a faulty ram slot in my mobo. But then my friend encourages me to change my CPU mobo ram instead. Is it worth it to upgrade though? From my current pc to what I'm planning to buy?

Yes it is worth it. The 3300X is even better.

You are going from an old 2013 Intel Haswell architecture with 2 cores and 4 threads, to a new 2019 Zen 2 AMD CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads with all the advantages of a modern CPU.

If you buy the right motherboard (some with the B550/X570 chipset) you can leave the door open to upgrade to Zen 3...

I agree with Djoza thats a nice CPU to pair with the RX 560 and even way better GPUs too!

Out of curiosity, Whats you system configuration right now? CPU, Mobo, RAM amount and speed, etc?

Ryzen cpus work better with fast RAM, but you don't need to over do it, DDR4 3200MHz CL16 should be plenty enough. As for the amount of it, a kit of 2x8GB is a nice capacity and will allow you to enable dual channel.

Ow cool that much huh, did not even realize that. About the mobo, I was planning on buying either Gigabyte b450m DS3H and ASUS Prime b450m-a because its as much I can buy. Which of the suits best? Or am I supposed to get the more pricey ones?

And about the ram, what does the "CL" do? Or how should I buy ram in terms of it?

About those motherboards, they are about the same (pretty basic), both come with 4 RAM slots which is nice to have. I have seen builds with both and they work fine.

Keep in mind two things:
  1. those are no motherboards you should use with Ryzen 9, but they should be enough for Ryzen 3, 5 and probably Ryzen 7 (as long as we are talking about 65watts TDP ones).
  2. In order to work with a Zen 2 CPU, like the Ryzen 3 3100, those motherboards need to come with a pretty up to date BIOS, so make sure you find out that first with the seller before you buy.

RAM has many timings involved on thier functionality, and CL is the CAS (Column Address Strobe) Latency, in an easy way is the "time" need it for a piece of data to be available for reading after a reading instruction. Usually you want a lower CL timing, and DDR4 3200 CL16 is a good balance.

Ow okay2 so do you think store bought mobo's are updated? or if it is not is there any way i can update it?

Ooow okay2 so a ram with CL12 is pretty much better right? I'm planning to buy a ram that is 3200mhz with a CL12

1. I have no clue if the store you are buying from have new or older stock. The only way to update a motherboard thats from an old stock (old BIOS) is with a Ryzen 1000/2000 series.

2. Far as I know theres no DDR4 3200 CL12 memory. The lowest DDR4 3200 RAM Ive seen is CL14. I do not know where you live but usually you may end up paying a DDR 4 3200 CL14 kit, 2 times the price of a DDR4 3200 CL16 one.
