Well, WD is certainly reliable. However, the Samsung drives are significantly faster than any WD other than its 2TB model and that alone makes them a better buy. They aren't on the market long enough to comment long term reliability, but on the short term they seem as good as WD in any way. The newer Seagate models (.12 models) also achieve near-Samsung speeds.
 
Recently i've used both Samsung's and WD's and haven't noticed any speed difference. If there is one it's definitely marginal and unnoticeable to the human eye and perception.
