[SOLVED] Which laptop to take

Hello everyone,

Im helping my sister buying a gaming laptop. Im in doubt between two models. They are priced the same.

ryzen 5 3550h + GTX 1660ti MaxQ (HP Pavilion)
Or
i5 9300h + GTX 1650 (Acer Nitro 5)

Both come with dual channel 2x4 and a 512GB ssd

I know the GTX 1660ti MaxQ is better than the GTX 1650, but im afraid the full power wont be used because of the slower Ryzen cpu?
I have a hard time finding gaming benchmarks of the ryzen 3550h in combination with the GTX 1660TI maxQ.

Maybe someone has experience with any of this systems?

Thanks!

It will depend very much on what games / software your sister will be using as to which is better. Ryzen clock for clock is about on par IPC wise, however the i5 9300H does have a decent advantage in max turbo clock compared to the 3550H so it will beat it in many cases.

That said the 1660ti is a much better gpu- so for AAA games at ultra settings the Ryzen + 1660ti will be the better combo (as the Ryzen 5 isn't a slow cpu). Where the i5 has the edge is in light games where you are pushing high frame rates- e.g. CS:GO, rocket league and so on where the cpu single thread speed becomes the limiting factor. The i5 is also going to be better at cpu intensive tasks such e.g. video editing.

Personally- I think the upgrade to the 1660ti is worth the drop in cpu most of the time.
