Hello, sorry if I may not be clear as I have poor technical knowledge.

I have "Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0" motherboard with the AMD "Phenom 2" processor installed. I am running windows 7 OS.

I want to upgrade ONLY the processor to "AMD FX-9590" of the "AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition" line. So I will be using liquid cooling for the same in place of the normal heat sink.
After preliminary research I found that I may have to update the BIOS as asus has offered an updated BIOS for AMD FX processor line (with a reason of system stability). I also want to format my HDD to install windows 7 again with all updated drivers as the BIOS itself will be different. Here are my questions...

Shall I update the BIOS first [ after I install the new processor ] and then Format HDD with clean Windows 7 OR shall I do a Basic install of windows 7 without the drivers and then install the new processor and update the BIOS?

To my best knowledge my cabinet can support a liquid cooling with one fan or radiator (I hope you can get me). I do not plan to buy a new cabinet at least not now. As I said that I am a simple user I am not going to overclock it, Can you tell me which is the best liquid cooling for this processor in 1 fan series and will it be enough? A couple of options will be good.

PC currently runs stable on 750 watts SMPS. I would be upgrading to 1000 watts SMPS. What do you say??

Thank You

That seems appropriate.

You may also want to do a bios reset, by either jumping the CMOS clear pins or removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard, with the power off, then putting it back and following up by going into the bios and selecting the "optimal default" or "setup default" settings AFTER you have updated the bios and installed the new CPU. Then configure any custom settings you wish to in the bios.

If this is for the 9xxx series, I still firmly disbelieve this is a wise course of action. If this is for the 8xxx series, you probably don't need to update the bios at all just for the CPU to be recognized, but it never hurts to be on the most recent bios version, except in cases like recently when Intel released botched bios versions related to the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.

It came stock that way...pre-assembled. I did not add any aftermarket fans to it at all.

I understand that. I didn't mean to indicate I thought you had. It just goes to show that even these companies that design and sell these systems, don't pay any attention to the evidence presented by independent and highly thorough testing showing that the performance gain probably isn't worth the extra cost associated with adding a second fan.

Half the time, it actually reduces performance if the back side pull fan is not configured for a slightly higher RPM or has naturally higher potential for air movement, as an equal or lesser capable fan will impede airflow from the front fan and in some cases increase resistance to airflow more than it helps it.

Thank you very much for your advice. But all my parts including my motherboard are working properly without any problems except the cpu. Also Its been a little more than a couple of years that I bought this motherboard so I do not want to sell it since it works smoothly. Hence I just wanted to upgrade the cpu. I am open to using any liquid cooling with one or two or even 3 radiators (or fans as i suppose). If 2 or 3 fan liquid cooling don't fit in my case then I am even open to changing the case.

Thank You

My case is a local brand "VIP". It was taken by Artis company. It is just OK. i was planning to install single fan liquid cooling in place of the system fan just like shown here below in pictures. I doubt whether 2 fan or 3 fan liquid cooling will fit in my case.

Artis make a number of cabinets however if your unable to fit at least a Corsair H110 or equivalent then unfortunately the MASTERLIQUID LITE 120 will be totally inadequate for the FX-9590.

If you wish to continue with an FX-9590 then you will have to upgrade the Cabinet that supports a top mounted radiator with dual fans. Your Sabertooth MB does support the FX-9590 and I recommend an 850W Gold certified PSU as a MIN requirement.

If you have no experience in modifying or previous build experience then I recommend you discuss this with your local computer shop and have them do it for you.

Ok I reviewed the entire post. It looks like there was a big fight. My apologies as I did not want to start this. Its not anybody’s fault. Actually the chip manufactures should ensure that their chip works well.. be it in Iceland or be it on some equator zone like the Sahara desert. My hardware engineer had told me long time back that heating problem persists in both AMD and Intel cpus but they are more common in AMD processors. I did not find any major difference in the performance after comparing Intel and AMD cpus of any particular generations over the years. I use AMD at home and the company where I work has all intel cpus and boards. I prefer AMD as those chips are somewhat less costly than intel. The only thing we need to take care of is the heating problem. My phenom 2 worked well for many years. It worked fine with the original thermal paste from Intel which we needed to apply every 3-6 months. So just on a side note, if i use any size liquid cooling do i need to apply thermal paste or should i wait till i get the "CPU overheat" error message after a couple of years. I will need to see what all models the shopkeeper has with respect to fx processors. I use my pc mostly for gaming. And next for surfing and music and watching hd videos on youtube.

Ok so Seidon is the best when it comes to single fan liquid cooling. I am expanding this question. Which is the best liquid cooling unit in 2 fan and 3 fan liquid coolers for this processor. Price does not matter at this point. A couple of options or more would be great. It is better to spend a bit more than to burn your system down. Also I prefer to change the case to fit the liquid cooling than to upgrade the motherboard. Thank you.

You *always* use thermal paste (unless there's pre-applied stuff on the cooler). Not using thermal paste is the PC equivalent of not putting oil in your car's engine until the oil light comes on.

I'm unfollowing this thread -- I won't take any part in a 9590 purchase, for ethical reasons -- but I wish you luck on your PC's upgrade.

Kraken x61/x62 if you can fit it, or H100/110/115

Thank you, for your help till Now. I do not know what fx model processors my dealer may be having. Lets see what I get.

Entirely true...my new build, completed last night, is only running push config on kraken x62. Updated CPU-Z in sig if you are curious

I analyzed my Pc cabinet. 140mm, 240mm, 280mm and 360mm liquid cooling will not fit in my cabinet. The exact model processor is not available with the local dealers but available with amazon. cooler master seidon too is not available with local dealers but with amazon. My hardware guy phoned the service centers of cooler master and corsair and they said the following liquid cooling should work fine with that processor..

Hydro Series™ H80i v2

cooler master MASTERLIQUID PRO 120

what do say??

H80 is good...if you are still curious.
