I have two old Macbooks that were given to me by family members. I want to keep one of them so I have a Macbook on hand. The Macbook Pro is obviously the better model but the Macbook Air is newer. I won't be using the one I keep for any heavy lifting, I'm more interested in which one is capable of running the more up-to-date OS and software. Here are the stats:

A1369 - MacBook Air
13-Inch, Mid 2011
Processor 1.7GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384MB
OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G3B)

A1286 - MacBook pro
15-inch, Mid 2010
Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1067MHz DDR 3
OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
Intel HD Graphics 288MB
OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

Thanks for your feedback.

Why not keep both?

Use one as your main and the other as a backup/spare/test system.

Just start up the backup on a regular basis to keep it active and updated. Use both from time to time.

As soon as you give one away, Mr. Murphy will show up and make you wish that you had kept both. :)

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Agreed, especially given the age of both.
