I just bought Skyrim for my daughter and needless to say the above setup running off the MB graphics without any graphics card at all is not doing so well. I am willing to spend $250 anyway on a good graphics card to remove that bottleneck - IOW max the system we have.

Any suggestions for a matching GPU would be appreciated. Oh- we have 4 GB ram.

you are good to go with 450 w if its a good power supply like form antec, seasonic or corasir. gtx 660 requires minimum 450 w power supply with a 6 pin power connector with minimum 24 A @12 V. if your power supply have these specs then your are okay otherwise upgrade for a better power supply.

I read this thread but I didn't see Skyrim mentioned. I am familiar with the Total War games but not the others. This lack of performance showed itself with Skyrim so I want to stick with specific recommendations for that. After looking at several threads it seems Skyrim will tax the CPU as well but will stay with the G860 for now.

What was mentioned in all these other threads as 3 GB Vram minimum and the GTX660 / GTX670 / HD7850 (XT) / HD7950. What is recommended out of that group for my CPU / MB?

gtx 660 is best match for your cpu. And also its suitable to play Skyrim

OK. Ordered a EVGA GTX 660 SC w/ 2 GB Vram from Amazon ($250). Seems like the price has held from when these cards were introduced. Will have to look at the PS to see if its enough. Will 450W be OK or will I need 650W?

Apologies for the late response. I got an EVGA GTX OC 660 and installed it (downloaded drivers etc). Skyrim was running fine and looking much better - for about 5 minutes. The screen locked up and the speakers started chirping. I have another thread on this. Turns out I fried the 400 watt 5 year old cooler master PS, the single memory stick plus the socket it was in, and scrambled Windows 7.

I gave the GTX 660 the best solution but just a word of caution to others a new power supply (500 watts will be in the new build) would have been a good idea. Now I have quite the job ahead.

Thanks Sancubes
