Which mobo?

Hello,

Making a new gaming rig and I'm not sure for which mobo to go, the price difference between the two doesn't matter to me.

Here is what I have in mind:

i5 3570k

two evga gtx 670 ftw sli

8gb of ram

and I will install a custom watercooling system for the cpu, not the two graphic cards. (I will be overclocking the cpu obviously and maybe the two cards a bit)

Now I was wondering what benefits I'd get from the ASUS Maximus V EXTREME instead of the ASUS P8Z77-V

Keep in mind that I won't install a third gpu, so the fact that it has more x16 pcie slots doesn't matter, neither the bluetooth feature and that kind of stuff tbh. Now that I think of it I could install three gpus in the p8z77 as well so nvm that.

What are the benefits? o,o

You can stick with the Asus p8z77 just fine, its a great mono you really don't need the V extreme unless your going to use 32gb ram, and its meant for quad sli a waste. But hey go for the extreme, you can always upgrade later both a great mobos.

Why's that, the p8z77 can also use 32gb of ram, or do you maybe mean the way it is used? Anyway thanks a lot for the fast replies! Any other differences?

edit: but yea, 32gb would be a waste for a gaming rig lol

btw, what about their bandwidths? would both cards run with x16? probably x8... cant find that info >_<

The extreme is a waste of money unless you are planning on doing 4-way SLI, which no one would reccomend due to scaling issues. Both will support 32gb just fine.

You should go with again with asrock z77 oc formula much better than the ASUS P8Z77-V and not that expensive as ASUS Maximus V EXTREME.

Yea but, what about the bandwidths? Now that I think of it that's the only thing I really care about, will both cards run with x8? if x16 great but x8 is fine.

Also @djangoringo, was looking at that asrock, uhm... I don't know what to think of asrock mobos, when I think of them I always think of bad quality, people that hardly manage to keep up with say asus, which are are the ones I consider to be the most reliable. This wrong?

Maybe in the past but now the asrock for sometime offers quality and performance for the best price.
Same reliability as the asus.

Oh that's good to hear, I haven't been building a PC for years so I guess I'm behind lol

Anyway found what I was looking for, bandwidth is fine with all the mobos mentioned here, so now it's rather: p8z77-v or that asrock XD the more I look at that asrock the more I'm tempted. Anything else you people might share with me that would make the decision easier?

Oh man, first bad opinion about the asrock here lol.

Why no watercooling? YB heats up a lot more than SB =F
