So i've come across 4 monitors that im looking to purchase but can't decide which is "best" choice dependant on price and quality. My budget is at $170(AUD).
I've only been able to find quality reviews on the acer 24" which is the one im leaning towards but i've compared them against other similiar monitors and wanted to see if i could get some expert opinions about other viable choices.

this monitor seem to be quite favoured for its price and quality

thanks guys!

Solution
You could go for the cheap AOC, however I suggest that you save up a little and go for the LG. I can guarantee that the LG will be flicker-free, I cannot do the same with the AOC.
You should buy an IPS monitor.

I would prefer this Acer: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161648871309?clk_rvr_id=862813002026&crlp=1_262691&mt_id=641&sdc_id=1436287979z703869z36073b0a16738z&mid=503315&fitem=161648871309&linkin_id=8085154&kw={query}&crdt=0&sortbid=32 thanks to its glossy coating.

If you would rather have a slightly bigger monitor though, this is a good alternative: http://www.getprice.com.au/LG-23MP55HQ-23inch-LED-Monitors.htm

These are the best cheap IPS monitors I can find in Australian stores.

ok i looked further into IPS monitors and i think im going to get an IPS panel monitor.
I also found these 2. Would they also be decent enough as IPS panels?

or i might just save a little and go for the LG or maybe even this BenQ model

IPS monitors are great for color accuracy, but the refresh rate isn't the best for gaming (10x better than what it was several years back). If you are playing a lot of fast-paced FPS/driving games, you may want to consider a TN/VA monitor. If you just casual play games, a 5ms standard IPS will serve you just fine.

would this be better then?
http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Monitors/23-24_inch/59324-G237HL
4ms IPS panel for $179
and yes, most of the games i play are fast paced FPS games.

VA panels are worse than IPS for gaming. If we are not talking about 144Hz TN panels, then IPS panels are clearly superior to TN ones. Their response time difference is negligible, as far as modern IPS monitors are concerned.

Would the Acer monitor i mentioned be a viable choice compared to the LG?
it seems to have quite a lot of good reviews on amazon(http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G237HL-23-Inch-Back-Lit-Widescreen/product-reviews/B00JB6HCFA/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending). But through those i reviews i couldn't find anyone say anything about gaming.

never knew flickering monitors could be an issue, guess i'll stick with the LG one. I also was able to find a smaller model of that LG monitor you recommended(22inch) which is great for my budget. The specifications were exactly the same, just smaller(https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=143&bid=7&sid=189272 - $159). Well thanks dude you've been very helpful, much appreciated!!!
