I want a motherboard that can last a long time. I maintain my pc very well and protect it from heat.I don't do overclocking and I play games like once a week.I need motherboards that can last a long time because I don't want to change them every 7 years. I already am thinking about buying a premium desktop cpu like intel 10th gen and premium ssd. What are the companies that produce long lasting motherboards .

Solution
I'll probably get flack for this but I love the "older" Dell stuff, particularly the OptiPlex 780, 790, 7010 and 7020. They're inexpensive and some of the 700s have been running for over 10 years now. The only issue we had was with the power supplies and something called tantalum capacitor. One of their vendors cheaped out on this part so if the machine isn't power cycled regularly you'll end up needed to replace the power supply. It doens't have on-board power for video *but you can install a power supply that has one. Hope this helps.

If treated properly, motherboards rarely fail. Heat, dust, and substandard power supplies are the main killers.

I've heard nothing but good about ASUS but it's been years since I've used any. My only concern would be finding a replacement if anything happened to it. Windows OSs generally don't play nice with different motherboards if re-imaging is required.

With a new motherboard, unless it is a 1:1 replacement, a fresh install is recommended best practice.
Any make or model.

In my 20+ years of building custom computers, I've only had one motherboard fail on me. That was an ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 and even that board nearly out-lived it's usefulness. I was two primary systems beyond that board by the time it failed.

Personally, I have an affinity for ASUS and Gigabyte boards, but will use an MSI (obviously) or ASRock board from time to time.

P.S. If I could find a use for it, I could pull out my old Intel P-III 800Mhz board/cpu (first system I built back in the 90's) and it'd still fire up.

My Gigabyte P55-UD3 is around 10 years old and still going strong, but a good quality PSU is critical. I also use a battery backup for line conditioning because where I live, my power fluctuates frequently. A power sag is a real system killer (as Ohms law explains.)

check for Gigabyte's "Ultra Durable" lineup , or Asus's "TUF" lineup
they are made with durability in mind, japanesse capacitors , "military specs" and so on

if you buy two, that's the real piece of mind. you get a spare.

Also, motherboards tend to not lose value over time (because ppl need them to repair their computers), so you will be able to resell the spare even after 10 years when you upgrade. So in the end it won't cost you. Especially if it's still new.

check the price of good 990fx or Z97 motherboards on ebay, they can be sold for more than MSRP.

It is likely that a motherboard in 10 years will have been obsolete for a long time.

Mechanical failure is rare, once you get past the infant mortality stage.
Here are two interesting links:

They show asus motherboards doing well as does samsung ssd devices.
