I have a Hercules GF2 Pro and have been running 6.31 for the longest time. The other day I tried out 6.49 drivers. They seemed to run worse then the 6.31 drivers. On the Earth 2150 setup test the 6.49 drivers ran about 10-15 fps slower then the 6.31 ones. On 6.31 i was getting between 105-100 fps at 1024x768 at 32bit color in D3D with DirectX 8. With 6.49 the best I got was around 85 fps. OpenGL test had about the same level of drop off. I have yet to try the 7.17 drivers, I have heard that they are a bit to glitchy. 6.31 is the last official Nvidia release on their website. As for the rest of these builds I dont know were they all came from. But if anyone else has any opions on what revisions work the best i'd be happy for the advice.
I run a
P3 733
256 megs PC133 Crucial
SB Live X-Gamer
Hercules GF2 Pro (stock clock or 225 core/450 mem)
and usually run games at 1024x768 or 1600x1200 32bit on a 19" FD trinitron.

I use 6.49 mainly because they run better on WinMe. They are not as fast but they have a lot of fixes such as not getting the BSOD on shutdown and the computer not freezing when the monitor shuts down to save energy.
If you are using Win98SE then the 6.31 should be fine. As for me, a few fps is not as important as everything working correctly and no freezes.

Good luck

Does your motherboard have a chipset that is made by VIA? I think I remember reading somewhere that the newest detonator drivers (after 6.31) don't run quite right on via-equipped boards. Does any one else know if this is true or not? Or am I having a false memory?

gtb77, I have WindowsMe and an Asus A7V that does have a
VIA chipset and I am using 6.49, no problems.

kal326, like I said, the 6.49 is supposed to fix the monitor shut off/freezing problem.

I read on a review site... www.nvnews.net , I believe, that the 6.5's were the best stable ones out right now. For all the hype, though, you may want to give the standard drivers from the manufacturer a shot...if they're brand new, they might offer a performance increase over the D3's. BTW...can't wait for the D4's! with the DX8 support :)

I run the 6.31 driver in Win2K with a Hercules GF2MX and it works just great for me.
I don't care if I get 100fps or 75 fps as game play is still fabulous at 75fps.

I had the same issue with my Propet2 GTS 32 meg card. I downloaded the 6.47 drivers and recieved a significant performance increase. Almost 250 using 3dmark 2000.
