One of the retailers in my country sells new or new pulled drives for quite cheap.

Edit: I just realized some of them are SATA 2, but does it really matter for HDD?

These are the 2.5" models that are sold right now (500Gb and 750Gb), and are sold for $30~
Toshiba MQ01ACF050
WD WD5000LPCX
WD WD5000LPLX
Seagate ST500LM021
Hitachi 0J30782
Hitachi Z5K500-500

Or maybe 3TB 3.5":
Hitachi HUS724030ALE641 ($60)

The good thing is that all of them seem to be old CMR drives that's why I prefer to buy them and separate enclosure over the bunded external drives like WD Elements/Seagate Portable/Toshiba Canvio

Also I'm not sure why the 3.5" 3TB is so cheap, but I'd need enclosure with separate power connector for it, and my backups aren't that big that's why i don
t mind having the 2.5" 500/750 GB

Where are you located?

The Blue variant of the WD drive ends up with a clicking sound. I know since I have worked with that same drive in the past. Here's something to think about, if you have about 250GB's worth of data to backup, then you're fine getting a 500GB drive but I'd advise getting a larger drive capacity if you need more storage in order to keep the drive running optimally and ensuring your data is secure. People tend to fill their backup drives to the brim with little to no empty space then end up with a faulty/malfunctioning/dead drive.

Thank you, then WD is out of question, but one of them is actually WD Black (7200 RPM) - what about this one?

Also, I edited the post, and wrote that some of the drives are SATA 2 - but that shouldn't be a problem with HDD right?

Currently I'm talking about 50GB backup, if it gets to 250-300GB, I will just get another one, they're quite cheap. Even two to have 2 copies. (Or maybe one copy will be SMR)

Now that I think about it, since I probably only intend to use it as backup - SMR is fine? much cheaper. Or even for backups it's not worth it?
