Which of these 3 cards to go for?

I am looking at 3 8X AGP 128MB graphic cards at the moment and would like to buy the best value.
They are Geforce4 Ti4200, Geforce FX5200, & GEforce4 MX440.
In terms of value which card would be the best choice if you ignore all the add ons such as software, games, cables. etc that usually comes bundled with them?
The Ti4200 seems to have a good rep due to the fact that it is very easily overclocked so would it be wise to go and purchase this ahead of the other two?

Geforce4 TI4200, at stock speeds, is at least 3x faster than the FX5200, reason because 5200NU only has 64bit memory, and 4x faster than the Geforce4 MX440. So the Geforce4 TI would be the best bet.

I wouldn't go for a single one of those but if I had to choose it would be easy: Ti4200

The Ti4200 is by far the best card in those options, although a Radeon 9600 PRO would offer full DIrectX 9 compliance and would be much better in the long run for not much more cash.

If you're a gamer, it's the right option for you at this juncture.

8x doesn't make a difference on those cards, except that the Ti4200 8x is clocked just a hair higher...but then again you could overclock the 4x version. Anyway, it's the fastest card among those 3, even the 4x version would be.

Don't forget TI4200 is NOT DX9.0 compatible!

Yeah, that's why I may get a 9600 pro if the price is right. Although, I'm not too sure if I need DX9. I may play a few games but I'm not really building my system for gaming as it is going to be more video editing orientated.

How come no one suggested a Ti-4600? I looked up its benchmarks and it is about 20% faster than Ti-4200. I also looked up the prices for both cards on newegg.com and they are within the same range give or take $5-10.

because a ti-4600 is an overclocked 4200... so you can do it yourself....

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360) , 512mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X

Can't you overclock Ti-4600? Also, since both cards cost the same why get 4200 and overclock it when you can get the 4600 instead?

As you said its 5-10$ more..so why get the same thing for 5-10$ more ?
Basically a ti-4200 will overclock as much as a 4600...

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360) , 512mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X
Edited by coylter on 04/30/04 01:07 PM.

The ti4200 will not overclock as well as ti4600, in fact it'll have trouble reaching ti4600's stock frequency. The different ns memory and different type of memory and different voltages makes it hard for the ti4200 to match ti4600.

Most TI4200 uses TSOP memory, and you know those blows. And the VGPU really matters.

Albatron came out with the turbo Ti4200 what was it called the TI4680 or something, that was a nice card, but costed about same as a Ti4600, so might as well go with something that's guranteed to run at 300/625 was it?
