Hi there,

I'm looking for a laptop for university, and the minimum specs required are:

Windows 10 operation system
Intel i5 Processor
8GB RAM
256GB SSD
storage Connections: (WiFi, LAN (optional), USB-C / USB 3)

I've looked online and found some refurbished ultrabooks within my price range:

Dell Latitude E6430
Core i5-3340m 2.7Ghz
8GB 240G
SSD
W10P
USB3.0
Laptop 14"

Lenovo L440
Core i5-4210M 2.60Ghz
8GB Ram
240GB SSD
14in W10P

They roughly meet my requirements. My issue is that I'm quite unsure the differences between the two i5 processors. I've looked on the intel website, and the Dell Latitude's i5 processor is a "legacy" core, wheres the Lenovo L440 i5 is a 4th gen processor.

Would this drastically affect which laptop is "faster"? The dell latitude is cheaper than the Lenovo L440, and I'm leaning towards it due to this. However, it sounds like the Lenovo L440 is going to more "supported", given the Dell's processor is now in the "legacy" class?

What would you recommend out of these two laptops?

They're both dated processors, dual-cores and have hyper-threading that utilise two virtual cores for improved multitasking and performance. However, the i5-4210M (Haswell) is newer - launched in 2014, slightly faster and has a better integrated graphics chip than the older i5-3340m (Ivy Bridge), which was launched in 2013.

Overall, I'd go for the Lenovo.

Hope that helps.
