Which of these two is better?

hmm.. both of these cpu benefit greatly from overclocking. the pentium has an advantage because it's haswell and will overclock nicely. it also leaves an extensive upgrade path.

Thanks for the advice, Ill be looking for alternatives just in case.

its hard to imagine, but the dual core has better technology than the 8-core. this, on top of the fact that it overclocks just as well, or better, makes it a better option for short term, with upgrade in mind. if you never plan to upgrade or modify, the 8320 is better.

Im debating on going with the intel rig due to the exact reason. "Upgrading". Honestly id love to upgrade, so Im still a bit leaning towards both sides. Down the road i could upgrade to an i5 or i7 :/ Do you suggest the intel rig for upgrading?

for upgrading, yes. in either case, i strongly suggest overclocking. it will take more research, but with today's standards, it's simple.

the g3258 is a special edition cpu designed by intel to compete with amd budget cpus. it is a haswell (which means it has extraordinary single thread performance) and has an unlocked multiplier (unlike most intel cpus). most current games aren't able to scale to more than 4 cores anyway, this does present a problem because they usually benefit from more than two.

the fx8320 is also designed to be overclocked. it's funny that these two are being compared, because the 8320 is at the top end for amd, while the g3258 in at the bottom for intel. that's why it seems like no comparison. the fx83** can easily reach 4.0 and beyond. the single core performance is what holds them back. they are excellent at handling multiple apps, even when gaming. but the socket is dead. there is no upgrade, other than a factory overclocked version of that same cpu.

Well, i think I'm sold with Intel. Id rather upgrade 2 or 3 months down the road, thanks for all your help. If there's anything else i need to know post on this thread ill be checking it just in case. +1

You won't be able to upgrade the intel rig down the line. Intel forces you to buy a new motherboard every time and they stop production of older socket CPUs quickly. AMD is a better choice for now and upgrade in the future. Overclocking shouldn't be done until you are comfortable with it. Even if you do manage to succeed, AMD leads by far in the budget arena.

As far as overclocking, I know how to do that, done it before. But now im really in a huge dilemma. AMD or Intel???? I want to upgrade, as for what ive heard, intel performance gets better than AMD at higher prices, but AMD has better performance at lower prices. The other thing I dont understand is how Intel forces you to buy a new MoBo. Thie mobo I selected is compatible with i5s ans i7s, which I aim to upgrade to in the future,

Yes intel is much better at higher prices. Intel doesn't allow you to upgrade without buying a whole new motherboard. The motherboard you have may work with ivy i5s but not too far from now intel will release the next gen and the processors that work with your mobo will start going out of stock. In other words, you will have to buy a new mobo + cpu. You can't even get 3 y/o intel processors anymore.

If you are just gaming, the amd cpu will be enough for a long time.

the gpu will also need an upgrade soon. almost so soon it might be worth investing in a better one now. or better yet, an i5 with integrated graphics, so you can save up $300 for a nice gpu

Yea, I was looking at GPUs and I found this other one which is an r9 270, which is slightly better. Im still undecided, I really need something that will convince me to go one way. Im still very leaning. .-.

AMD processors are very good for the price. i7 has higher single threaded performance but AMD's 8 core chips win in multi-threaded.
