Three models I am considering (based on availability in my local shop)

  • Toshiba P300 (HDWD110UZSVA)
  • Seagate BarraCuda (ST1000DM010)
  • Western Digital Caviar Blue (WD10EZEX)

I read so many different opinions about them and seems like each person has his own opinion based on very limited sample. So what's the most popular opinion?

Based on tests in terms of performance it seems WD > Toshiba > Seagate. I have no info. of failure rate for 1TB drives though.

i prefer the WD Blue drives. but then others prefer seagate.

you'll get a lot of different opinions from each person for different reasons. i've not really seen anything to suggest any of them are better than the others. we've just had different experiences with each.

For consumer grade drives, the differences are mainly going to come down to how many times you shut your computer down improperly, luck of the draw, and how much shock and vibration the hard drive experiences over its lifespan. I've had good luck with Seagate as my 1TB 7200RPM Barracuda has just started to get a bit noisy at 5 years old. Get the one that performs the best.
