This question probably falls into the category "embarrassed to ask". I never really bothered about finding out more why I can't use the Microsoft Scan app or why I can't scan from a photo app with my HP Officejet Pro 8600.
I was bale to scan with the "HP Scan and Capture" app. However, this stopped working this week on my Win11 box after a Windows Update (likely culprit as noting else changed and older clients still can scan)

1.) What printer/scanners are supported by the native Windows Scan app? Or 3rd party apps?
2.) Is there any chance to get scan to work with another app for my 8600

However, this stopped working this week on my Win11 box after a Windows Update
You could try uninstalling the app, then manually reinstalling the app in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

You could also perform a system restore to a point prior to the update and see if that helps.

Thanks. I will give it a try.

But in general I am curious about printer - driver - and scan app relationship. Generally, it seems that on a win client most hardware and software pairings are possible. Just printers (scan) seems different. Also want to make sure for future printer purchases what to look out for.
