Hello All,

I am going to build a new PC and need some advise. I am an AMD fan and need suggestions on which AMD processor and motherboard I should go for. Budget is not a problem. I'll be using it for photo-editing, internet, occasional video-editing and downloading video content. I don't need gamer's specs as I am not a heavy gamer. I'm a power user who tends to run multiple apps at once and like to have it all running smooth and fast. I hate it when an app takes forever to load when an anti-virus scan is going on or am doing some photo-editing. Loading and execution should be zippy. I am happy to have onboard graphics but if a good graphics card makes my multi-tasking experience better, I wouldn't mind having it.

Looking forward to hearing from all you experts.

Thanks in advance

Phew, thanks, the video card is sorted. For the CPU, am going for the Phenom 965 as it's only a few dollars more than 955 on www.techbuy.com.au but doesnt mention black edition anywhere. What's with the Black Edition? Is it for over-clocking? I don't think am gonna do that anyway. Or maybe I will, I dunno lol

So far, we have agreed for the following:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Quad Core (3.4GHz) - AM3, 2MB L2 & 6MB L3 Cache, 45nm SOI, 125W $256.25

Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 - 512MB GDDR3, 256-bit, VGA, DVI, HDMI, Fansink - PCI-Ex16 v2.0
(575MHz, 1.8GHz) $103.20

ASUS M4A79XTD-EVO Motherboard
AM3, AMD 790X, SB750, HT 5200, 4xDDR3-1800, 2xPCI-Ex16 v2.0, 7xSATA-II, 1xeSATA, 1xATA-133, RAID,1xGigLAN, 8Chl-HD, Firewire, ATX $184.80

Total so far AU$544

Am already excited!!! Can't wait to add the RAM, PSU & CASE. We need to decide on these now.

It's 2.38 a.m. Sunday as we speak and I can't go to bed lol

ok farukkh, will just get the normal edition then. i've already added these items to the cart and will save it. i'm thinking of going to a computer fair later in the day and check out prices. i've been told i can save some money here and there. will give me a chance to have a look at cases too...

I felt the same when I was getting my 1st build about 7 yrs ago. It was being built around an AMD Athlon XP 1.9 Ghz Barton Core processor. I remember it was quite high end at that time. I used the latest expensive Asus board with nVidia's nForce chipset. Windows XP would fly on that.

yes, farrukh, these are fantastic brands for PSU, so I have read.

saiello, i have decided for a 1tb maxtor or western digital... hdd's are pretty much the same i guess. not much confusion here... all i have to go for is higher rpm to price ratio... unless u guys have a suggestion here which i'll gladly take...

good idea

i looked at the ssd options and price is unjustifiable right now to gain a few milliseconds.... in the future, i'd consider... so am gonna stick to SATA and try to get the fastest rpm for a good price...
