Hello everyone. I was confused between 6600k and 6700k processor for my music production in daws (FL Studio and Ableton) but with help of this community I was able to final my decision on 6700k. But now Intel launched their so called extreme series cpu and 6800k seemed to me a good choice. Further researching into it I got to know about 5820k which also overclocks heavily. So my main question is that should I buy 6700k or I need to buy very very powerful 5820k/6800k for daws. Is 5820k overkill and if it is not then should I buy older 5820k or newer 6800k. 1) For 5820k I need to pay 210 usd more cost opposed to 6700k. 2) For 6800k I need to pay 285 usd more cost opposed to 6700k

Well the better the processor the more effectively you will be able to work. After a bit of research it seems that the 5820k would be a good choice simply because it has more cores available and would allow you to work with larger projects per say.

"I’d definitely recommend getting at least a 4 core processor if you are doing heavy work in a DAW"

So the i7 6600k, 6700k ect. wouldn't exactly be a bad choice but you would have more options open to you if you chose the more powerful 5820k.
So it really depends if you think spending more will be needed in your case.

Is hyperthreading important....and will 6600k suffice or 6700k is needed.

The 6600k will get the job done but essentially the more you invest the more power you will be getting. So yes the 6700k will win because it does allow for hyper threading. Some applications that you will use will utilize hyperthreading especially the more advanced programs that require multiple threads. To be safe I would choose the 6700k and be confident that whatever application I use, it will be powerful enough.
