WHICH PROCESSOR IS BEST FOR MY ASUS P8P67 DELUXE
I felt a little confused about the change in sockets and the second generation of IX processors. Now that i have spent a couple of hours reading about everything going on with Intel i am really confused. Any help i run the microsolft office 2010 my kids out of college runs a couple of online games so i wanted the top of the line but that is'nt clear anymore.

Well it depends. If you just want top of the line with no overclocking, then the Core i7 2600K. But if you plan to overclock, the Core i5 2500K is perfect.

Either of those will be very fast and do well more than you need.

Any processor for the P67 board will be more than enough for those needs. Get an i5 2500K if you want to overclock your CPU, an i5 2400 if you don't, or an i3 2100 if you want a good CPU that is cheap

Microsoft Office will run very nicely with even a low-end Sandy Bridge CPU. A Core i3 2100 would be fine. It will run some games, but not all.

If you want a no-risk very fast top-of-the-line machine, maybe the Core i7 2600 might suit you. It will run any game, even without over-clocking.

That's a lot of MoBo for your stated usage. You could easily get by with the P8P67-M

For the "top of the line" the Deluxe is a great board but if gaming is a priority, just $20 more gets you the Asus WS Revolution which gives wider bandwidth for hi end GFX cards.

I'd get the 2600 only if tackling workstation type apps that take advantage of hyperthreading such as Photo / video editing, large databases, 3D rendering etc.

Yep, 2500K is the best choice for anything besides ridiculous multitasking/media stuff.
