Which processor should I buy for gaming?

The i7 is better, but you wouldn't really notice a difference unless you're running a 144+Hz monitor and had a high end GPU, eg. GTX 1080 or better. If you're only targeting 60Hz and are only going to be using a midrange card like the GTX 1060, then the i7 is much less beneficial unless you're also going to be using productivity software that benefits from the i7's extra threads.

if you have no budget, obviously these are the popular choices 7700k but if you have a lot of multitasking with heavy apps. like browser. streaming. encoding videos. and gaming at the same time. go for 8700k. the gaming fps between them is only 5 fps average in favor of the 8700k.

if you are on a budget. the highest i5 k for either skylake or coffeelake (multitasking) is fine. you can tweak your budget going higher from there towards i7.

sorry i am intel biased. 😀

my friend is a game programmer for ubisoft. single-core cpu is where you should go. achieving parellism performance (taking advantage of multicore) is hard to achieve. and not much improvement in the game programming anytime later in the future to support multicore enhanchements.

Lol, ubisoft. A game dev known for their horribly running games.
I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that they don't know how to optimize a game for multiple cores.

I'd easily pick the 8600k over the 7700k. Not only does it perform slightly better all round but by using the latest motherboard chipset there is a chance for future upgrades, with the older Z270 boards there will be no new CPU's for them and with a 7700k you have nothing better to choose from.

Why would i be "salty"? i haven't wasted any money on their games.

based on intels patterns, most likely they will release a new board which will only be compatible with the z370 chips rn. this doesnt mean the 7700k will lag behind. just a new architecture and better efficiency all around. if one were to only be worried about his game performances, then all he needs is an upgrade on his GPU/OC his CPU.

you can go for the i5-8600k. same price as what u suggested earlier. at least if you want to upgrade your board as well next year your chip is still usable. even if you sacrifice the single core performance. its only a couple of fps lower in difference.

Yeah, I am running 60 hz monitor. Thanks
