I move that we suddenly remember the OP's request and move this discussion to another thread so his survey doesn't get shut down if it gets out of hand. If everyone is cool with this, I will start a thread and quote johnpaul37 and chunkymonster's last posts to get the discussion started.

Amen to everything this guy said.

I've always assumed that slavery propelled us into the lead and we've just coasted for the past 150 years. We had bountiful natural resources and the (forced) manpower to harness it. However, I think we're running out of steam and are about to see our status challenged. Of course the believers will simply say that God has forsaken us because we have forsaken Him when that happens.

And both explanations cover the facts. How do you go about choosing between them?

During the time of slavery, from before the founding till well into the 1800s, the economy of America pretty much sucked. It's only been since world war one and two that we have been so powerful and wealthy. I respect your viewpoint, but I don't think it is very logical.

I would probably say 1 of those religions from Shadowrun or Deus EX II! More Magika-Incentive-a Trade plus a profession!

I'm an agnostic christian.

I attend the services, prayers and whatnot for the sake of family & community.

...but do I seriously believe in talking snakes and a 6000 year old earth? HA HA HAAAA

*falls to ground clutching stomach*

Explain. You can't just claim this and then go along your merry way without providing some sort of logical reasoning.

And as for myself, I'm an agnostic atheist. And I object (not outwardly, just pointing it out) to the inclusion of atheist/agnostic/skeptic into the list of religions. It would be more appropriate to list that under "no religion/don't care", but I say this because I'm tired of people claiming that atheism and what not is a religion.

This reminds me of the "if a tree fell in the forest, and no one was around to hear it, did it make any noise as it fell?"
Of course it did, and tho in mans heart God may have died, even in his thoughts, God is surely not dead

Those are two completely different circumstances. We can prove that something will make a noise when it falls because we know what causes sound, and we know of the components that will create that sound, which are a falling tree (catalyst) and air (medium). However, no evidence has been put forward for any deity (aside from google, but that's if you follow googlism), so saying that God is there, even if we don't know it, is fallacious.

And no amount of infos has adequately described/confirmed the creation of the universe, in which we all need a starting point.
So, if one cant explain the primary question any better than the other, should we disregard either?

We should disregard what we can't test. Until something comes about that can lead to any sort of conclusive proof, it's smarter to work on what can be worked on. But lets skip this discussion. As the first post clearly states, there shall be no discussions on this thread, and I will respect this.

Pity that humans always ask questions that are relevant to them. If a tree falls in the forest and no man is around to hear it, some squirrel definitely heard that thing drop just before it came crashing down on it's poor little toes... Even though that squirrel can hear that tree fall same as us humans, you know he doesn't share the same burden of believing in god... and since hell is the only option for those who do not believe (in some religions) in god... There are going to be ALOT! of squirrels in hell...

Squirrels are kinda cute, Hell must not be THAT bad...

If you want me to answer this, you can start a new thread, post a link here, and I will be on it as I have time. I also want to respect the wishes of the OP.

You didn't go over light in science class much, did you?
