Question Which RTX 4060ti to choose?

Hi everyone,

So I I got someone interested on buying my used RTX 2070, and I was thiking about RTX 4060ti 8GB as a replacement (16GB are out of equation due to stupid price gap, and sadly RTX 4070 are nowhere to be found here).

I been reading/watching comments, reviews and it seems, according to them, than most budget models all have some bad points. I don't care much about cheap plastic, but I do care about high thermals on the GPU, VRM.

I would love to get a ROG or TUF models for example but those are also nowhere to be found here.

This are the options all 8GB models, all of them around the same price, give or take:

- MSI RTX 4060ti Ventus 2x OC
- MSI RTX 4060ti Gaming X
- Gigabyte RTX 4060ti Windforce OC V2
- Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti EAGLE OC
- Asus RTX 4060ti Dual OC

Which one would you choose? and If you care to write more, why?

Thanks!

Well, for Nvidia cards, back in the day, I think the best cards were ASUS.

For AMD cards Sapphire's best and ASUS takes the second place.

All the brands you've mentioned are pretty good so even if you go based upon a personal penchant you would not risk much with these brands. I am biased enough to take ASUS' side though.

Thank you for writing up! Do write up if you're wondering about anything else. 😉

Thank you for your reply, I have a personal favorite, which is the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti EAGLE OC.

I think this one, which is longer and with its 3 fans should keep not only the GPU, but also the VRAM and VRM at decent temps. The only bad thing is that Im not finding any tear downs to see whats inside. nvm lol, I think I just found one.

I would pickup an RX 6750 XT, cheaper, more VRAM, and pretty much as fast in most cases. Here is a review of the RTX 4060 TI 16GB below, which also has the 8GB, you can use the 2080 TI as a reference since the RX 6750 XT is pretty well tied with it in performance at 1080P and 1440P.

Another option that can be had for as much as the RTX 4060 ti 8GB that also has more VRAM and is generally faster is the RX 7700 XT.

Yeah.. I have always been more on the Intel side for CPUs and on the ATI / AMD side for GPUs myself. Experience and the happenings within the circle of people I have known has definitely prompted me toward the side of the red dragon.

Maybe things have improved for Nvidia since the GTX 560 days, but AMD is still a smooth and beautifully wonderful counterpart.

Thank you, and yes any of those Radeon gpu will be better options, the RX 6750 XT I can't find anywhere, and the only RX 7700XT I found is very, very long it doesnt fit inside my case :disrelieved:

Our gpu availability here really sucks.

MSI RTX 4060ti Ventus 2x OC
Front to back finstack array. Not with your current case(going by your signature).

MSI RTX 4060ti Gaming X
Usually can't go wrong with the middle product tiers, and if it's around the same price as the Ventus... definitely look towards this one instead.

Gigabyte RTX 4060ti Windforce OC V2
I see the fan shroud is a little further away from the PCB, which should give it slightly better exhaust than their V1.

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti EAGLE OC
Might be the best one... but it's not like a 4060Ti is a power hog and can't be cooled on dual fan coolers; the Gaming X is using larger fans, which kinda helps make up for the lack of a 3rd.

Asus RTX 4060ti Dual OC
There's that front to back finstack again... and also, screw you Asus.

I think it's a toss up between #2 and #4.

Thank you soo much @Phaaze88 , I think this was the kind of analysis I was needing.

Yes the MSI Ventus and the Asus Dual were the very last options on my list.

For the other 3, price wise, comes the Windforce, the Eagle and the Gaming X

Oh crap!, I see it, your point on the Windforce V2, indeed the shroud goes slightly over the connectors cover plate. Yes that may help with exhaust. So it should be better (temp wise) than the V1. Plastic backplate.

As for the Eagle, from the review I watched its big, but its mostly "air". Because it weights around 660grs which is around the same as the other cards in the list. And the backplate is also plastic. So thermals are not really that great and they said its a little bit noiser than the other ones. The only "great" thing, it comes with a dual bios option, which on the quiet helps with noise, but the gpu run hotter.

About the Gaming X, it seems its a good option specially because the pcie power connector pushed back from the side which should make it easier to plug and accomodate inside the case. The real pitty about this card is the metal backplate is sorta useless because is not used for anything.

I guess I will try to go with the Gaming X, and if that fails for whatever reason, Ima go directly to the Windforce V2, beacuse I don't want a big card that is louder than a smaller one.

You already know plastic backplates do little beyond aesthetics.

I'm going to tune the fans through Afterburner anyway, so the default curves and dual bioses does nothing for me... you may get more out of it though.

Yeah, unfortunate that the Gaming X's backplate is also just for show.

Yes, Afterburner is great, no need for dual bios with it. But if someone else comes read this for advice, they will have the info.

Yeap, a real pity about that metal backplate on Gaming X, it does look better than plastic, but nothing functional.
