I have a motherboard with both the Intel ICH6R and Silicon Image 3114R SATA RAID controllers. Which delivers the best performance? I don't know where else to find this information out. Thanks.

I see someone mentioning that if a RAID controller is connected directly to the Southbridge then it will in theory perform better than another on-board chip which will actually be connected via PCI. However, I've also seen info saying that Intel's RAID controller is doing some kind of virtual RAID or something... and whenever I see the word virtual I always think - not as good as true/real.

No question in my mind, and the prices are affordable, and performance is outstanding.
