With an Abit AV8 and 2 modules of appropriate 512 MB RAM, are there a particular socket to put them in, or can i put them in any of the 4 slots in order for dual memory?

The manual should tell you the appropriate slots...have you read the memory section?

The manual should tell you the correct slots...have you read the memory section? Normally it's slots 1/3 or 2/4 but there is a preference by the mfr on which two slots....

Well, the manual does tell me....not that it makes any sence to me. what does single and double rank refer to?

Whether there are memory chips only one one side (single rank) or on both sides (double rank) of the memory module.

Can you just take a look at the manual for me <A HREF="http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/download/download_detail.php?pFILE_TYPE=Manual&pMAIN_TYPE=Motherboard&pTITLE_ON_SCREEN=AV8&pSOCKET_TYPE=Socket+939" target="_new"> here </A> and confirm that I can put them in any of the 4 slots?
