Hello! Recently i hooked up my haswell build and here are my speks-
intel core i7 4770 cpu
Asrock z87 pro 4 mobo
Corsair 1600MHz CL11 Ram (3 * 8GB)

Further i want a ssd to my rig as a boot up drive for speeding up startups, shutdowns and application access. I want to hook up the newly bought ssd with my old 320GB samsung hdd. Tough at the moment my hdd do not support Rapid storage technology but i will upgrade to some WD or Seagate for it.

A large size ssd will be preferable as it will allow me to install more programs in the fast storage area. Tough i am restricted by my tight budget i do not want to compromise with performance. I have picked up two ssds which are available in my area please help me out in which one to buy.

Option 1.

This one (samsung 250 GB ssd 840 series MZ-7TD250BW) offers 250 Gigs of storage but have a sequential write speed upto 250MBps.

Option 2.

this black beauty (Samsung 840 Pro Series 128 GB SSD MZ-7PD128BW) offers only 128 gigs of storage but the sequential write speeds are upto 500MBps at the same price.

Hence on one side i am getting double storage and on the other side double write speed. Which one should i go for? Some say that write speeds are really kind of important but other say that it does not matter much for a bootup drive. Dere are several other factors also such as access times etc. So considering all the factors of these two drives which one should i go for?

Solution
You are right, for strictly booting, write speeds don't matter that much. However, if you are using Windows 8, it will affect restart and shut down speeds. Win8 writes a bunch of data about its session to the disk on shutdown to speed reboot the next time, just fyi.

If it's your primary drive (that is, you want to work off of it and not a slow HDD), get the 250GB 840. I have had 128GB SSDs, and they fill up too fast. OS, a few applications, and a couple games and you're done. Personally, I take two 120GB SSDs and put them in RAID 0 to create a 240GB array. It works pretty well, though reliability leaves a lot to be desired.

What about the new Samsung 840 evoS. On the tom's hardware review page which i mentioned in my previous post they seemed to have both high speeds and desired storage at the same price as same performance 840 pro 128 GB. Are those drives good ones to go for?....

The Evos are great. I was assuming from you not mentioning them initially that they weren't available in your market. Some people get really mad, when you suggest things that aren't available, so I wasn't going to mention them.

If you can get one, do it. All the Samsung SSDs are great, and the Evo is just an evolutionary improvement on the 840 and 840 Pro.

Solution

The might of evos have made me change my mind! Plannin to grab one through ebay!

I would recommend Intel for sure. Intel 520/530 will be good choices. Apart from Intel, OWC Mercury Electra/Kingston Hyperx 3K would be good too. As all of these happens to be sandforce based, performance & reliability is guaranteed
