I plan to finally upgrade my PC's cpu but i have a tough decision which processor to choose. Some have told me the i5 6600k will be good while others tell me the Ryzen 1600x is a better choice. These are more or less bias opinions as I looked at benchmarks and comparison videos. They seem to be at a tie.

Im asking which CPU should I get that is more worth the money for My gaming PC as that is what is Used for

If you are just gaming then i5, but if you are gaming and productivity then ryzen, if they are priced similar in your region then ryzen would be but be aware that you need faster ram 3000MHz for its full potential as ryzen loves fast ram.
Mine would be ryzen and it still its gonna be viable platform till 2020.

oh yeah i almost forgot the motherboard at a good price for either CPUs i need to find. trying to spend at most $300

If you are buying new, there are better choices than the 6600K.

What is your current cpu/motherboard/ram?
If you can upgrade just the cpu, that will be the cheapest option.

If you need a new motherboard and ddr4 ram for ryzen, that will probably blow your buddget.

Ryzen 1600x is good if you can actually use the 12 threads it provides.
But... to see how many threads YOUR games actually can use, do this experiment:

Experiment with removing one or more cores/threads. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option.
You will need to reboot for the change to take effect. Set the number of threads to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many threads.
If you see little difference, your game does not need all the threads you have.

I have done it and the 1600x only boosts to 4ghz when 2 threads or more are under full.load moreover if you go on user benchmark ypu will find that the 1600x beats 6600k and 76000k

so on top of the ryzen and motherboard for it would it be ok to get a 8gb(2x4gb) ddr 4 ram with 2400mhz?
